Need better explaination about added racial traits (bonuses)

So, I am making a custom race and there are tons of options such as :
Bravery (+10%)
Morale (+10%)
courage (+10%)

Umm, the descriptions are nice and all but are they basically the same thing?

Also, I have a ton of +hp type stuff but my ships don't seem to reflect this. Is there some resource I can look at that explains some of these items with their in game advantages?

Courage
"Bravery is not only respected by alien races, but can also give your Soldiers the advantage when fighting a close land battle."
-Brave (+25%)

"The cornerstone of a prosperous empire is a hapy society. Keep smiles on the general public with an increased Morale ability."
-Naturally Content (+10%)
-Naturally Happy (+15%)
-Naturally Joyous (+20%)

brave is a category under courage. If you read the description, courage/bravery (same category) helps with soldiers on a CLOSE LAND battle. I would guess that it is different from normal soldiering in that it will give bonus on a close fight. 1 point in soldiering would only give you 10% bonus and 1 point in courage would give you 25% because courage would not always apply. I AM wondering if it influences diplomacy though.

Morale, on the other hand.. keeps your citizen happy, just as the description says. It does not affect your soldiers in the military sense of morale. It affects morale of the populace and thus the approval rating.

So I decided to do the smart thing: RTFM - Read the .. Manual. Here is a breakdown:

1.) Courage gives a bonus to the attack value of your ships when you are fighting against an opponent who has a higher score than you. The degree of the advantage is based on how far ahead your opponent is.

This one differs from the in game description.

2.) Morale adds to the morale rating for EACH of your colonies, making it less likely that you'll suffer the effects of low morale.

3.)
