Planet orbit

Since it appears that the planets in Rebellion orbit the sun wouldn't it be cool if the phase jump lanes changed planets? It could change the game entirely. By this I don't mean totally cutting off the lanes and not allowing access to a planet.

You now have to go all the way around to get to planet2 unlike before when you just had to use 1 lane to get to it.

 

So tell me? Whatdaya think?

ive always thought there should be some movement with the planets.. orbit..  ect.. not sure how it could be done reb with all the other lag issues lol a thought for sins 2 years form now hope they add something like it

The planets do move but it has no effect because they move at the same speed -.-

The plan for Sins of a Solar Empire originally had fully orbiting planets. Then it was realized it made planning and strategy making a complicated nightmare as your front line planets all of a sudden are farther away from the enemies than your home world. In short, it wasn't fun so it was removed, and explained away that the phase lanes do not represent physical distances but the space between the phase dimension, and so can remain constant.

I think this is one thing that will continue to separate games from simulators, at least with Real time games.

I have to pretend that each gravity well is a separate star system within a cluster and the planet is just the most interesting thing around that star and that the central star represents the core of the cluster (think Empire at War meets Mass Effect).  

 

otherwise i start thinking about orbital distance, clearing the neighborhood, and other ramifications that get in the way.  timing would also be tricky because the current war only covers about 25 (presumably earth) years in the lore.
