ive played two games now - 1 in in entrenchment and 1 in rebellion - i really enjoyed the rebellion game even though i lost . I love the game and i have games running all year round, even if the game just gets a few hours from me and the rest of the time its just running away as the AI's duke it out or try and get into my territorry - i love the game is my point .
I love getting a box set of a show thats ended (of something ive seen before) and watching all the episodes back to back while playing sins and sometimes playing sins while the shows in the backround and sometimes the other way around if im not under attack or i am turtleing - but i like to be able to pause - go bathroom, shop ect
Anyway to my point i just did something really cool that i wouldnt have been able to do online
its early in my game so no slowdown from unit caps, my titan is attacking an ai planet to my suprise they attack with allot of corvettes and the usual 3 or 4 caps and support ships - because i could pause the game i was able to get the timing/angle perfect to turn and hit them with scatter shot - the corvettes all attacked then spun around then i fired the explosive shot before they spread out - took out almost all of their non cap ships, fired my snipe - cap ship goes down followed by a second cap ship two seconds later - i was zoomed in, cinematic mode - i spent ages advancing the game frame by frame in micro pauses to get the perfect shots in and enjoy the combat in all its glory - game time about 7 seconds but i was having a great time with it paused checking out the action from all angles - its why ive been playing sins and its mods all these years.
In general in online rts games some tactics like mass spamming a single unit can prove quite effective and can also slow down games and ruin the fun - not talking sins in particular here but in sins im talking about mass spamming preventing a diverse fleet - if not effective but a diverse fleet does look great - ive only ever encountered slow games when lanning with a guy who only has the min specs
I used to be big into competitive online rts years ago - 2nd best in europe at red alert 2 : (sorry had to throw in that brag its been years since i mentioned that online) used to play allot of total annilation, sub com (obviously not the second one) I knew going into sins online there would be rushes and taticts i havent seen beforei just wanted to say a big thankyou to the players in my first online game it was great fun and you guys thought me allot in just a few hours.
I love to play big games of sins i feel that online games would be too rushed for my liking - myself and a friend are 70-odd hours into a lan game thats been gong for months (im a 9-5ver and he is nights and weekends so we hardly ever get a chance to play it)
If anyone would be up for it id love to arrange big 24+ hour marathon games - or games where you agree in advance to do the game in a few 12 or 15 hour segments
Ill show you one of the maps we played on before - its a 2v2v2v2 - 4 players each get their own - prebuilt identical solar system - then theres a 5th central solar system with 4 players - one in each corner. its mostly played as a 4ffa human map - each human player getting 1 AI ally in the central system - the idea being the 4 people with fully built systems move early from the second the game starts to support their AI player in the central system and attack your enemies ai alys because the AI allies in the central system basically scounts and monitors all fleet movement of your enemies
only played on it twice but i love it because it suits both turtlers and rushes as you get your home planets pre conquered worlds but are also forced into a conflict
