It's all down to the fire delay between weapons. There's some 16 ralguns pointing forward, 12 to each side, and 8 aft. But the delay is somthing like 1 second between guns. Which means your looking at over a quater minute per cycle. Really all thats needed is to reduce tha delay to somthing more resonable. Most ships that have a really large number of guns of one type pointing in one direction have a fairly small delay of the order of a couple of tenths of a second. The result is that every round goes overboard in a 3 to 4 second time period. Thus even if a target is killed, it won't explode before the last round reaches it.
Also am i the only one concered by the fact that the Rebel TEC, Rebel Advent, and possibbly the Loyalist Vassari titan all have a good chunk of their DPS locked up in weapons that recive no benefit from any weapon upgrade? It wasn't so bad when it was just a couple of starbase upgrades, starbases as a rule don't shoot it out with each other much so the imbalance wasn't really too relevant. But now. Not so much.
