I'm not sure why this would be the case exactly but a ping of 300-400 on Demigod results in a choppy and needless to say, unplayable experience. I find this odd as at these pings, games of L4D, CoH, DoW2, RA3, WC3 and WOW all run smoothly. Hailing from Singapore, I'm used to these ping rates (can't be helped due to distance from the servers) but it is a bit disappointing that all other multiplayer experiences have been enjoyable except for Demigod which like L4D was created mostly for multiplayer.
Being in Asia, one can expect the numbers of a local community for any particular game (except for the most popular of games) to be low. A decent multiplayer experience would therefore require us to connect to the international community. Of course this would be fine if we could join the Australia (closest community in the region) Demigod players but while most connections are fine (<200 ping), there is the odd Australian connection that refuses to drop below 400, thus slowing everyone down to a choppy, unplayable state. This post is therefore to understand why a ping of 400+ makes Demigod choppy to the point of being unplayable when it doesn't seem to hinder all other multiplayer games.
I know that most of the pressing connectivity issues have already been solved with the last patch but if anyone knows why the above is happening and if there is an implementable solution, if would be a huge benefit to the game as it would also consolidate the currently fairly small player base that Demigod has, thus allowing players from Australia, Europe and the US to play with each other and increase the enjoyment of the Demigod community as a whole. It would be a shame to have a great system and such an addictive game to go to waste due to international connectivity problems.
