Anyone else notice this...

        ...I'm watching enemy ships travel from 1 planet to another one, across the entire star system, but there was no phase lane there. What SHOULD HAVE taken 8-10 jumps was done in 1 LONG jump!!!! Did I miss a certain ability? I've seen Pirates do that too. They went right from their base to one of my planets bypassing multiple jumps, when there was no pirate raid immenent anyway... WTF?!?!

Is this a glitch that everyone knows about? I'm playing single player against 7 opponents on HARD difficulty with everything set to FAST...

Anyone have any ideas...

Vasari with phase gates, most likely.

I've seen Pirates do that too. They went right from their base to one of my planets bypassing multiple jumps, when there was no pirate raid immenent anyway... WTF?!?!


That'd be the TEC Insurgency ability in action. It causes small, random raids to spawn at enemy worlds. They're independently AI controlled though, not by the TEC player.

As far as enemy ships, it sounds like they were Vasari - the race gets a technology to allow them to build phase gates which create phase lanes between two gates, so ships can travel in a line bypassing the normal phase lanes.

Pirates do take normal phase lanes, what you saw was probably the TEC's Insurgency tech which spawns Rebels to attack random planets. These appear to fly out of nowhere and land around your planet. That would also explain the lack of pirate warning

I suppose you could tie Kryo's hands together, but then he couldn't make great games then.

But anyway, his post had a much lower character count, so taking that into account plus his lack of any respectable typing skills...

Thanks! I didn't know about that ability since I usually play as TEC. It's sad though, I remember games like Alpha Centauri and Civ 4, their game manuals read like books... They gave great detail into every facet of the game, including abilities of each race and basic strategy suggestions. The manual for Sins, and many others barely give a mention of each ability, forget about a 'thick' description. (Can I find something like that online???)
To me, it would help figure out a new race alot quicker with the proper info. I tried playing the Vasari on easy, and it felt really strange, trying to figure out what all the new techs would do and how they would help. It took forever and really felt like I was wasting time. I ended up just going back and playing as TEC.

But thanks for the help.

BTW, is there a research to stop the Insurgency somewhere?

The only thing you can do to stop insurgency is to destroy all TEC factions on the map.

If you don't know about the Vasari, the phase gates, and the Returning Armada ability, you really should take the time to learn about it because it's very important in any game where you have a Vasari player. You definitely need to be aware of it if you want to play online multiplayer (so that you'll have a respect for the power of Returning Armada and so that you know that you and your teammates need to go crush the Vasari opponents before they get it up and humming).

You can go here for a comprehensive list of ships, abilities, and techs.

Insurgency spawns very few ships, so even a few turrets will stop them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but all you'd really have to do is destroy Civilian Research Stations. If the opp. doesn't have 8 online, he won't be able to generate rebels.

Good call, but if their research stations are deep in enemy territory, you can't do much.
