New races?

Has anybody actually created their own race as in ships, and not just re-textured exsisting ones? I know about the startrek ones but are there any others? I checked the library and didn't find anything.

Edit: Does anybody know what happened to the mod that was creating a insect like race from scratch? I searched through 20 pages and couldn't find it.

Well, there are several projects in the works which are aiming on creating entirely new races. But it takes a lot of time to make all the new assets (I think there are about 32 models to be made for just one race) so I advise patience.

To name a few, there is Dawn of Victory, a high-profile mod with which I can cay I am impressed even though it is early in development, DANMAN is planning on making (if I am not mistaken) new races for his 7 Deadly Sins mod, Bailknight has been making new stuff as a part of his effect overhaul mod which you can find here and so on...

To self-advertise a bit, my mod, the Last Stand is also aiming to bring entirely new races to Sins, and unlike a total conversion, is more geared towards being an expansion mod to the existing game.

Some of my early models also have a vague insect-like appearance, so it may be the one you have been wondering about.

Well there really aren't any mods with new races that have all custom ships, but there are a lot of plans out there or one.

If you like Insect/Organic ships you should efinately check out Sins: The Last Stand.

I have a dream about a game with over 100 races with over 10.000 diffrent units and a galaxy with over 10.000 planets with 1000 stars, but like i said its a dream and will prob never be true, becouse you will need a super computer to run this game. but its a dream i have about the greatest RTS X4 ever. I hope they will solve the max limit of 10 players, and i hope that everyone will summit there work with DANMANs 7 Deadly sins so they can work togheter...

And i will point ones again that this is just a dream of my game of all games.

As far as I know, and to do a little self promoting of my own, my mod, when nearing its full glory, will be featuring between 20-30 races. I think this is as close to your dream as you are going to get. Like Mansh00ter said, it takes a LOT of work just to do one race, especially when using all new models and not just rehashing the original races.

Just look around in the top mods out there, like the Dawn of War, THe Last Stand, 7 Deadly Sins, Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate, and other mods.
You will find new races and new models. I saw that insect race mod too, but it kind of faded from the spotlight.

I know that, thats why its a dream, but i will be glad with every new race to the game... 100 new races was just a number i took from the air... But i am very happy with all ur modding ppl out there... I belive that u can make this game the best ever just becouse of the mods...

Danman, it may also turn out to be one of the biggest mods out there if you see it all the way through. I estimate that the first installment of The Last Stand will be anywhere between 250-500Mb heavy, unpacked. Say you don't go for the very hi-res textures like I do, so you average 1.3Mb per texture file per model, each model requiring 7.5Mb of texture data (aside from frigates and fighters, most larger models require 1024x1024 for optimum resolution; many big models I make use 2048x2048 resolution or 15Mb per model)
So that would be 30(races)*32(models)*3.9(texture data)=3744Mb or 3.7Gb of data in textures alone.
