Game does not start - Error

Hello,
I have downloaded Galciv II and have the program installed. Now I can't start it. I always get a error when i start. Because winxp sp2 is german the error is in german.

My guess: Read the readme or the stickies = make sure you're not running in 16bit color as your desktop.

My translation is not very good, but here goes (btw I hope this helps):

The instruction "0x7c920f29" refers 0x00 "to memory"
The procedure "READ" could not be implemented on the memory
