Issue with latest update

After this latest update, I have found a lot of functionality no longer available.  This seems to primarily be with the research topics, for example the Leadership Recruitment, so after you research the proper topic you do not get any access to the ability the topic covered.  In the example of Leadership Recruitment, you never get the button that allows you to do the task.

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying. From my own testing, I do not see any issue with unlocking the various game functionality when researching technologies that do so. Make sure to validate your files with Steam and see if this still happens in a brand new game.

Manually kicked off the update to make sure no files were missing and started a new game (shame, because that first one was going really well otherwise) and still seeing functionality missing.  Same issues as before.

Could you please provide a save file show casing your issue. You can post it over on discord in gc4-commons with a small explanation of your issue. We'll be able to load it on our end and better understand what you're seeing.

For example when you says, "any access to the ability the topic covered" and "you never get the button that allows you to do the task", what exactly do you mean ?

I mean that I do the required research, then the button never shows under Executive Orders.  The other buttons appear (Draft Colonists, etc.) but not that one.  I'm not on Discord, so I don't know how to send a save file, but I am seeing other posts on this forum with the same issue.

Yeah I gotcha now. I actually made a mod,  BugFix_UP_Voyagers, found in the Bundle of Mods at https://www.galciv4.com/mods/manager that fixes this issue. So while we wait for a fix to the base game, it's an option for your next game while playing a civ that uses the Voyager Trait or is affected by this issue. It'll only work on a new game though; same as if it makes it into a patch actually.

Draver, about a week ago I grabbed the Bundle of Mods you referenced.  Every game I've started since has progressed to a turn resolution that crashes.  I have validated the files in Steam and the debug.err doesn't seem particularly helpful (though I'm not an expert).  Is there anything else I can look at to see which of the mods in that bundle might be causing the problem?  Other than that bundle the only other extras I have installed are ship models and civilizations off the Steam Workshop.

Any help you can provide is appreciated.  It seems like a bundle of very useful tweaks and fixes.

Thanks,

gs

Well that's quite unfortunate but I don't think the bundle is at fault. I've actually tested this last week and was able to get a game well into the 300 turns on a gigantic galaxy without any issues. The crashes are most likely caused by the Custom Ships models and Civilizations from the Steam Workshop. Those are known to be crash prone sadly and have been the cause of most crashes like that in the past and present.

My advice would be to unsubscribe from all the Workshop mods, ship models and civilizations, and play a game with just the Bundle of Mods. If you still crash after that we can look into further troubleshooting.

Still if you happen to have a save file show casing the crash you could share it on discord; even if the crash is caused by workshop mods, the devs may want to take a look.

Thank you, I'll give that a shot.  What about ship models and civilizations I create myself in the game, are they also a risk?

I never would have thought that custom Civs or Ships would be crash-prone--it's a pretty basic selling point of the game series.  Many thanks for the pointer!

That's a good question! I don't know; I would think those would be much safer, but I could be wrong. I wouldn't worry about them for the moment, unless the crashes persist.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure the devs are aware of this and will work to mitigate the issues and fortify the game against faulty workshop mods. Keep your crashing save file around, and test them out on the next patches, see if they eventually continue without issues. That would be a good way to know that you're good to go with those in the future!

And as mentioned previously, if you can share those save file as well with us on discord, that should help the process as well.
