I’m admittedly new to the Sins franchise and have only been playing Sins II for a short time. However, I’ve very much enjoyed this game.
One thing I have found lack luster has been the map generation process. I would very much love to see a custom map creation tool added to the game. Through the now decades long history of RTS and 4X strategy genera’s, I’ve encountered numerous ways of allowing players to choose or create a custom map. And Sins II is one of the weakest entries I’ve come across.
It’s far from the worst, but it is extremely limited. I very much miss the days in the late 90’s and early 2000’s when titles like Age of Empires and StarCraft II provided the player base with robust map creation tools. It was possible to create a game space from a blank slate. Adding terrain, setting spawn locations, and resources. You could intentionally create chokepoints and natural defenses, or go the complete opposite direction and create a map which completely exposed the player. You could define resources amounts and set spawn locations and behavioral conditions for NPC factions and minor factions alike. Such freedom led to fan favorite maps coming from the player community itself and adding significant life to those given RTS titles.
I would very much love to see a similar custom map feature added to Sins II. Give us the ability to create a map from a blank slate or modify existing ones, to place systems and worlds, define their links to each other, set the resource levels, and define were the major and minor NPC faction’s spawn. I think giving players that level of flexibility and freedom to create, and allowing us to share their maps with others. Would lend the same advantages to Sins II as it had for past titles.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
