Death Stars

GalCiv has been around so long that Frogboy and the other devs must have thought about this.  But anyway--

I'm playing a gigantic map as a custom race against all eight prerolled races.  I got a position in the center of the galaxy, and at about turn 150 I'm completely dominant, with a faction score of about 900 while my nearest rival has about 200.

I'm building lots of warships and transports to conquer everybody, but the map is so big this is getting a bit tedious.

So I wonder if anybody has considered giving the option to create Death Stars.  It would be on an enormous hull with a special death ray module.  It would have high speed and lots of HPs.  So you could just zip around at high speed and blow everybody up.

I suggest that only malevolent civs could make one of those.  The death ray module should be at the end of one of the malevolent tech trees and cost extra, like 1,000 malevolent points.

Has this been considered?

So, in other words, you're looking for an Instant-Win ship.

Yeah, not gonna happen.

GC2 had terrorstars, which were clumsy versions of a deathstar.  They weren't the clean-up tool you seem to be looking for, but a lot of people liked them.  Brad and Paul have talked about bringing in terrorstars or other planet busting technologies, but there is no announced schedule or details.  I suspect you will see a DLC of various ultra-weapons some day, but that is an admittedly uninformed guess.

@trims2u, No, I'm not looking for an "Instant Win" ship!  If only malevolent civs can build a Death Star, and it requires 1,000 malevolent points at the tail end of one of the malevolent trees, and it requires the largest possible hull, it would not exactly be easy to build.  And zipping around a gigantic or larger map, even at high speed with a one-shot weapon, isn't exactly fast.  It would still take at least 50 turns.

I'd like to see this option, and purists could just choose to avoid it.

Incidentally, on very large maps, I find that toward the end of the game the starter surveyor craft is too weak and too slow.  I like to build a super surveyor ship on a large hull with a survey module, lots of speed, range, and sensor range (and I mean lots) and just enough missiles to make short work of pirates.

The dev's have sad IIRC - ~~no death star but look into similar options,  not in the cards for the immediate future

Totally ok with this, GC2 deathstar was not my cup of tea but is was fun to mess with

Would be nice to have something like a TerrorStar, but this time with the ability to target single planets only. In order to be able to destroy uninhabitable worlds and turn the resulting debris into something useful... ofc that thing had to be slow, very slow, use upquite an amount of production + time to be finished, and perhaps destroy itself during the process, too... in other words to make it unreliable for an ongoing military use.
