Sins Rebellion Update?

Ok so i just downloaded rebellion from impulse so i could get the diplomacy discount, my files show its V1.1 but i see up to V1.4 is out and i think i need an update

Steam auto updating is turned on, so i am a little lost on if i need an update

I have been seeing tonz of crashes with rebellion mods and this could be why as some mods are for V1.4

I made the assumption i would get the newest version off the initial download

so my question how do i find out my actual current version and where do i manually update if needed?

thanks

The 1.5 Rebellion beta was released this Friday, but it has a few bugs, and mods haven't been made for it. Version 1.041 was the version before the current 1.1, but there has never been a Rebellion version 1.4.

Ok i found the version in the bottom right hand side of the main menu V 1.1.4480

but see mods that are like R5 and V0.1.4 so its a little hard for me to tell the compatability

Those sound like Mod version numbers, not Rebellion numbers. Each mod is for a specific version of Rebellion, and each mod has its own version number so you know when the mod gets updates.

Ok that makes sense, i went back and looked at maelstrom, it shows the current version i downloaded is for rebellion V1.1 so maybe this is not a problem with the versions at all.

What are the next things i should check to solve the mini dumps, as this is a new PC i built i could be looking at a number of things from drivers to video card settings.

just looking for ideas as i am not a hardware Guru

You should always ask the mod author in this case, but in general there's 3 main causes of mod crashes.

A. Crash while applying the mod - Likely a problem with mod installation. Either the mod is out of date, you do not have your mod order right with multiple mods involved, or there are mod specific instructions you need to follow.

B. Random crashes in Game - Usually this is from the game hitting the 2GB "Ram" limit, which since mods add more content, tends to affect them worse. Reducing your graphics settings, from say highest to high, should reduce the frequency of such random crashes.

C. Mod Error - If a mod crashes at almost exactly the same point after loading from an autosave, or when you do a specific action like using an ability, it is likely a bug in the mod itself and you should report this to the mod author.

Ok sounds good out of the 3 i would say the ram is the best bet, i have 16GB so i have been ramping up the games to several players and huge fleet sizes, with a 660TI VC and graphics maxed.

I did not know about the 2GB limit, and it was crashing a lot when a big battle would start, so it seems logical

thanks for all the quick replies Goa

Oh and i was thinking about my system, i do not think its the game itself as i have played a few matches with no mods and it runs fine

only when i add a thicker MOD does it crash like maelstrom so i will try the lower settings, i really dont need things looking super pretty as i am usually to far out to see the individual ships anyway

Yeah, and the good news is if it's the RAM limit it's just the texture quality that push it over. Things like Antilasting, Antroscopic filtering bloom and all those other graphics options are handled by your graphics card or possibly your CPU, so you don't have to reduce those settings.
