Is there any guide to city / champion specialization options?

As the thread title says, is there any place where I can read about what the different options are for city upgrades as they develop?  It would help a lot for planning what to specialize cities in when they reach size 2 if I knew what they could later pick up at sizes 3-5.

Similarly, is there can guide as to what promotions champs / sovs unlock by going down the various "Path" options?  It would be very helpful in general if there was a database of available promotions and what their requirements were.

Yes there is.  You have access to the 'Hiergamenon.'  I am currently building a spreadsheet that contains the information you're asking about, and have used it extensively.  Simply do the following...

     1. Make a list of all your building upgrade options for your first city.

     2. Then look up each one in the Hiergamenon.

     3. In the upper-right corner of each item you will see the complete path for that upgrade.

For example, let's look at the Workshop upgrade, where you will see' in the upper-right corner, icons for...

     +1 production for Workshop

     +2 production for Mason

     +3 production for Mill

+5 production for Labor Guild, and so on.

You can do this for things like Growth, Food, Gildar, Unrest, Research, Iron, Crystal, and Magic.  And keep your eyes open during your games.  You will often fine things out in the wild, like 'Prestige Resources,' that should be written down.  And if you have the patience, you can spend a lot of time going through the Research Tree to get even more useful data for the information you're looking for.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, but my issue isn't with city structures, but rather the cities themselves; for instance, what does options does a Conclave have when it grows to level 4?  I have no idea, since I rarely have any use for Conclaves at level 2, and I'm not going to turn a core city into one just in hopes that it grows into something useful dozens of turns down the road.

I don't know if the options are listed anywhere specifically (they may be determined randomly), but you could always make a list as you go along to see if they are random or specific.

The general description of each city type does exist, and is as follows...

Towns specialize in Growth and Financial pursuits

Fortresses are dedicated to City Defense and Military pursuits

Conclaves specialize in research and Magical Pursuits

Beyond that, there may be some 'mod designers' who could tell you what the actual code says.

Hah.  Thanks, but that's the big problem right there- I don't want to have to grow one each of a Town / Fortress / Conclave to size 5 or whenever they stop growing just so that I can determine what benefits each selection actually can provide, and it's not practical to force someone to have to go code-diving to uncover very basic data regarding a core game mechanic.  Hence my question / request for some sort of (preferably in-game) database players can access to resolve these sorts of inquiries.

Thirded this time :)

1st level of fortress gets you

strike thingy - units trained here go first in combat

infirmary - +10hp per turn for stationed units and +1 growth (maybe)

not sure

I think the 2nd level of fortress gives you

iron mine - +1 metal/turn

Prison - reduce all cities unrest by 10%, reduce this cities growth by 1.  (nice when capturing a bunch of cities)

Can't remember the third one.

1st level of town

city grocer - 10% hp to all units

2nd doesn't matter

3rd doesn't matter, are you really going to choose anything else?

2nd level of town

governors mansion - 1 production per town per material I think

not sure
