If you play Pariden or a customized, Pariden-like leader, give strong consideration to the virtues of pioneer spam's more demure younger sister, arcane monolith spam. It's a circular path: the more monoliths you drop around shards, the more mana you'll have from shards to create more monoliths. Of course, you don't want to neglect prestigious locations, food boosters, iron, clay, crystal deposits, etc, but shards should you be a focus of yours. Not only do they bring in more mana, but just as importantly, they deny mana and access to territory to your opponents. Pariden if played this way is like the blue suit in Magic: The Gathering. It's all about denying things to others.
