The Demigod Challenge - Host modded games

OK guys/n gal (hiya dark).   I'd like some help from the community.  I do my best to organize tournaments, the community as possible, etc, and I'd love for you all to make a minor sacrifice for me to help get us up to 100% of all players using the demigod mod package.  Whether we are pals or not - if you've been on the forums for more than 2 weeks, you know me a wee bit at least.  Help the community out by doing the following:

For the rest of the week, please host games using mods.  I'm not asking you to play crazytown or favormod games or whatever.  Do that if you want and have fun with it.  What I want to see is the majority of the hosted games using uberfix at the very least. Hell, add in the ai mod or just add that if you want and don't even use it.  I'm actually convinced that we have a 75% adoption rate of the mods.  I'd like to bump that to 85% within the next 2 weeks.

To make this happen, you folks just need to host the games with a mod on.  AND make the small effort of adding folks that don't join your games as a friend and pointing them to the forums.  Uberfix does a heck of a lot towards fixing the bugs still present in the game.  And the ai mod, though it has it's flaws, makes games with a small amt of folks into something more fun (even if you only have 3 players, jump to the other team and add an ai reg as long as you know how to spam a little dmg.  I trust you will have a decent change of winning.

So - if you are a huge fan of dg or a pal of mine, help me out and lets get even more folks using the mods so you can host a favormod game and be confident that everyone that wants to play can join you.

If you will help out (just for 7-14 days) please jump in here and agree to host games with some sort of mod enabled and invite folks.  We already know that there is some wait time for most games.  You might have a crap game that is completely uninteresting - but more folks will get the mods.  I, for my part, will try to encourage the mod makers and get us some new content.  My latest project will be to drag Exx back.  :P  Oh, I will get you.

Good idea, as I always **** when I commit suicide with UB and Ooze on. I actually tried this before but it was very hard to get a game going.

One thing though I dont understand: "AND make the small effort of adding folks that don't join your games as a friend and pointing them to the forums". How do I know who doesnt join my games because of mods?

I'll host with en AI mod on. I'll host with uber too and see if I catch any fish.

Well - I play windowed mode, so its a little easier for me, perhaps.  I just open up www.demigodthegame.com/opengames.asp.  If there is another game up, you can add the host of that game as a friend and pm them.  I usually do that if I see someone hosting a game with outdated mods at the lease.

I will try my best to do that. Also I think Crazytown is much of an improvement, other may think that it´s too intervening (hope I used the right word) with the "original" game. That would be ok (I would try to argue but if somebody does not accept at all... maybe his UB get nerfed to much ^^). But Uberfix 1.05 and enhanced AI (if a player drops) is just an advance for everyone I think. Can join in today with hosting such games. Will also try to convince other players to get the mods (hope noone will feel offended...).

I'm not on nearly as much as many people, but I think 75% might be a tad high for current adoption.

Generally when I check the 1-3 games waiting for players very few people have any mods running.
Having said that I will definitely try to pull more people into the mods.  I love the changes and I really would like to play more FavorMod games. Uberfix and Crazytown should be standard IMO.  The UI changes as well.  Love them all.

I based my 75% estimate on how many downloads there have been of the combined mod package.  For every new release, we see from 100-200 downloads.

The only mods I really think should currently be the absolute standard would be uberfix, enhanced ui, and enhanced ai. There's no real downside to any of those mods and they only serve to improve the base game.  I like the occasional crazytown game to try out the balance changes, but I'd really need to log about 50 + games with decent players to get a better handle on how good or bad some of the changes are.  And because its a balance changing mod, that means that some folks won't like it initially because the player that understands the mod the best will have a pretty decent adv.

I will try to establish Uberfix 1.05, enhanced AI and Crazytown, because they handle bugfixes and balance changes.

Favormod, for example, is a "real" mod to me because it has nothing to do with bugfixes or balance changes and really adds something new. Good stuff to try out and to spice up a custom game if you´re bored from the main stuff. =)

plague - you should check out enfos mod too, if you haven't tried that yet.  It's a pretty fun SP or MP mod where your team battles wave after wave of creeps.  I think I have that linked on my combined mod installer page.

Thanks for mentioning Enfos, Pavoc, because it´s really a nice one for single player! =) Have only played it a few times yet, but it makes fun! But at the moment online playing against humans thrills me more. ;-)

But I think I will still have a game of enfos in between because I have to try Regulus next (these silence archers really screwed me last time with TB so I think about a heavy AA build... Well, I´ll see! =) ).

I think I'll be hosting some favormod or enfos games tonight. Haven't played enfos in a LOOOONNNGG time.

I´ve hosted three games today and was surprised that they almost filled as easy (or maybe as difficult ^^) as other games. It seems a lot of people have the mods installed (Enhanced AI and Uberfix 1.05 in my case).

I also tried to spam my f-list and the chat but I had to realize that ctrl+v does not work in Demigod... Not to say that the f-list option and other cummunication stuff seems to limited.

Well I try on. The girlfriend of my brother knows russian tongue so I´ll try to get these guys too. (The once that don´tspeak english won´t show up here without a reason.)

See you tommorow!

Ok, I'll host them also with Enhanced AI and Uberfix at least. Maybe no spirit oak rush also...

I'd definitely give it a week or so before you try with the no spirit oak mod, though.  It always takes a week to 2 weeks for a good chunk of the population to grab the latest version of the modding package.

This is a real challenge, as there is a good amount of players even saying to others not to get mods, when I do say... One said. It would separate our community into half. 50% with mods and without. Getting a game going is extremely difficult as players rarely join (not talking about full room, but just joining overall). In few hours of waiting, it is possible to get ~1 game going.

While advertising mods, getting lots of messages like "shut up", "nobody cares about mods", etc or just getting kicked.

I am pretty much losing hope... Leaving game open for hours and doing other things with computer might also be not good, because I might miss, when it fills up... as there's no way to know that not in game...

:hugme:

:(

Well that sucks.  I've apparently had a bit more of a positive experience with this.  The most I will do is wait around 10-15 min tops - and then we'll just play a game with the ai's tacked on.  Anyway, the only thing that's probably keeping some folks from being able to join directly is that new spirit mod.  There have been a ton of downloads to the combined installer, but it takes a few weeks to get quite a few folks to get new versions of the mods.

Probably the biggest win for our regular groups of players would be to get zen to get off his arse and start hosting games with uberfix on.

It can work the other way - if folks can't play any games because they don't have the mods, they will have to get them... same way as you might want to disable mods to get a game going.  Anyway, thx for the effort, dark.

Pacov the US players are pretty much all on board. When u guys are snoring your heads off, it's Tomorrow afternoon here and there's mostly EU players coming online (about 1/2 the volume as the USA peak time).....

It's funny when I getr a day off work and it's 1:00 in the afternoon here and u guys say 'last game for the night'.

So yeah, at peak time here in Australia (6-8pm) I find most games without mods. During the day here almost all games -USA! are modded.

Maybe it's in the translation, but the euro players are quite rude and know little about what works and not. So many want 1v1 all the time... try to explain the game is boring that way let's add an enhanced AI, and they refuse. Plus most will outright refuse to play you if your ping is anywhere over 300. Up to 450 can work fine in a 2v2 but tell them that and they'll call you an idiot. I just love having a lobby with 3 people, then 1 will join and say 'Lukas is a lagger look 400 ping' and then leave, then all the others drop like flies.

And yes, I've been accused of using the UI mod to 'cheat'... that's crap.

So REALLLLLY REALLLLY we need a petition from the active players asking stardock/gpg/ whoever the powers are that be, add the mod package as an update with UI, AI and Uber as standard ALWAYS enabled. The community will not be split in half by mods, I see about 3/4 using them, and the other 1/4 of players are the abovementioned 'difficult' people who will only realise the game is better with these mods forced upon them.

OR the other thing we could do is move Australia closer to America so we're in a more similar time zone. I can't get a day off work all the time you know.

Please keep up the good work folks!  Tell folks that you see hosting games with old mods that they have old versions as well.  Saw a person tonight with an older version of crazy town that I pointed back to the forums and explained to them that most likely no one could join their game because they have an outdated version.  Please - if you ever see someone with an outdated version - just shoot them a pm and let them know it.  Not everyone hits the forums up on a regular basis.

Anyway - had my 1st desync in forever today hosting a favormod game no less.  That was interesting.  Happened before the game launched, so it was a version conflict.  Just strange because favor mod 2.3.3 has been out forever now.  Guessing someone must have toyed with some files?  Oh well.  Anyway, I'm about at a 100% success rate for games using enhanced AI and uberfix 1.05 now.  I've been phasing in the spirit nuke mod.

aw - just checked open games and I see mcshane's hosting a 3v3 uberfix game that is in progress!  Very happy to see more folks hosting games with the mods.  Thanks!

Haha, yea I have to take back what I said about tactical's UB in the other thread.  In a whacky game he lit up my team for 17 kills with a vial UB.  We eventually made a come back after nnnils dropped, even if enhanced AI had been on though they probably would have won, tactical was on fire lol.  Clearly an anomaly though, it was just all around strange, both teams swapped gold flags and portals for like half the game too.  Final kill count was something absurd like 26 to 25.

tactical is the anomaly of demigod :P He is a really good fighter, but does the weirdest builds on purpose that are 9/10 inferior

Where's the replay... surely one of you kept it.  I would love to see tactical wailing on you folks.  hehe

It was The_M_, drisch, and me he wailed on with nnnils playing Oak on his team, so hardly a spectacular combination;  but the best I've ever seen tactical play none the less.

ah... fair enough.
