GameRanger says it will be requiring at least v1.0.0.93 of Demigod soon.

I just went into GameRanger to play a 1v1 with a friend who just bought the game and saw this message:

Demigod fixes for Windows 7

GameRanger should now launch Demigod in Windows 7 without the massive slowdown and/or black screen. This may have also affected Vista with Aero / Glass enabled.

Also note that GameRanger will be requiring at least v1.0.0.93 of Demigod soon, since it's getting too difficult for people with fully updated copies to filter through all the un-patched games in the list.

If you are still on 1.0.0.91, open Impulse and update Demigod.

Hopefully that will help to clean out the pirates a bit :D

The day Gameranger only allows for 0.93 is the day a pirate will actually bother updating game to 0.93 and post the updated files on Mininova or The Pirate Bay.

It will delay for a few days the wannabe pirates though. On the other hand, if every pirate is updated to 0.93+, we are back to square one. They will once again try to connect and look for an update on the official servers and crash them each time htey launch the game.

GameRanger launches DG via LAN game.  DG only checks for updates when you start Internet game and (and maybe only after you login via impulse credentials).  Shouldn't cause us any problems.

Cant wait for this to take effect.

Also, Stardock upgraded their servers, the http requests for an update check aren't a problem anymore.

And yeah, this will make it at least a bit more of a hassle to play with a pirated version of Demigod on Gameranger :)

Unfortunately, I don't think this will do much. It won't be long before an updated version starts floating around the internet, and if someone gets creative they may even make a fan patch for the cracked version of the game so people don't have to download the whole thing again.

This ends up hurting Stardock more than it helps it.  Right now GameRanger is the most reliable way for me to play DemiGod, I own a retail version but play .91.  I've tried using the DemiGod program to play games but so far I haven't had much luck.  Let the pirates play on GameRanger, it has no effect on the DemiGod servers that I can think of.  Once more updates come out, people that pirate the game might also purchase the game.  Heck if they made it free to try on GameRanger their sales might pick up and I'd probaly find a lot more games to play in :)

Actually no, this WOULD be a good thing for Stardock.  0.91 is the version that spams their servers for updates every time you *start* the game.  The later versions removed that so it would only check when you log on.  They had to separate the servers because of that.  Forcing them to a newer version would actually reduce the load on their servers overall.

If only I could see the dumb look on a pirates face when he tries playing the cracked demigod one day on GR only to find out it won't work and he needs to pay for an update. lawl. Get a job dickheads!

Well, Brad has mentioned Game Ranger no less than 50 times, perhaps this is all part of some kind of master plan...

lol the master plan to rape the sales market

They still haven't done anything about the pirated versions. Gameranger is still the best way for me to play this game with friends even since the Beta patch this weekend. I hope and wish that something could be done to make Demigod without Gameranger as stable.
