The poncho was clear. Let me repeat... the poncho was, is, and for as long as it isn't dirty, will remain clear. Like a clear book-bag. You can see through it. Clear as in plastic clear.

I think it's funny that you have to get so angry over some spelling errors, a few grammar mistakes. Are you having a crappy day? It seems like it.

Texas, I'm glad you're still trying to find humor in this. I just don't understand why zombie thinks my parents are stupid just because I don't spell very well.

For one, my mom helped me pass a lot of my college english tests last year and my dad helped me with my pre-calculus every now and then. Not that I needed it. I did it because they like thinking about stuff like that just as much as I do.

I like school. In fact, I can't stand going on spring break or winter break because of it. Basically, I'm not as dumb as you were hoping for.

I'm not offended about anything - you just seem pretty bitter and it's coming across in most of your comments - to Dharma and Jamie - and people pull you up on things like spellling and grammar because they want to HELP you.
DaVinci is a famous guy called Leonardo DaVinci not the vinci, Jamie is a teacher so grammar and pet-peeves about spelling and such is his thing. Dharma is a parent, I think I read somewhere zombie is too.
The easy thing to do would have been just to edit but say Hey guys thanks for the spelling/grammar lesson I've fixed them up but can we get back on topic.

Failing that tell everyone you're making a point about schools not teaching kids to spell correctly and this is your proof.

the reason that schools do not teach you to express yourself is because the arts are not funded in the No Child Left Behind Act. The act just funds standardized testing in core subjects such as math, science, social studies, reading, and writing. The head honchos over in Washington label all subject matter within the arts as "extra curricular activities". This is complete bullshit!!! The arts are special because they not only stimulate the cognitive domain of the brain, but they also stimulate a student's affective and psychomotor domains as well, thus giving a student a WELL ROUNDED EDUCATION. The only thing that the big wigs in charge see is that it's good to have a marching band or someone singing at a football game. This only aids in the strive to be mediocre in today's society. Sad, isn't it?!

Your reasoning makes absolutely no sense. The No Child Left Behind Act was intended to focus on the academic arena of education. Of course there is no funding in this act for the arts because the arts are federally funded by other entities such as the NEA (National Endowment for the Arts). I went to a performing arts high school. All of our funding for the arts was received through the NEA and other such federally funded agencies. The NCLB was specifically designed to keep schools from passing students from grade to grade without teaching them all of the academics.

You really should research legislation before you condemn it.

Whats funny is that I was just poking a little fun. I didn't get the slightest bit upset until I was called a "dick" and even now I'm not overly worried about it.
See, this is a huge problem with todays kids - wound up way too tight. Overly concerned about what to wear instead of bettering themselves. The captain has fallen prey to the worst of Americas evils - focus group based advertising. He's fallen into the myth that he should be allowed to wear what he wants, whenever he wants, and little things like stupid school rules aren't overly important.
Ponchos, clear are not, are discouraged from schools because the standard poncho is not clear and can easily hide weapons. The "no poncho" rule is for your own safety. It would seem that a clear poncho should skirt this rule, then you have to deal with making exceptions to given rules in place for student safety. And although it may not happen at your school, I promise you that if an exception is made for a clear poncho someone, somewhere would use that as a basis to sue a school district to make other exceptions, and then the rules to prevent clothing that can hide weapons are pointless... and your safety in school is a little less degraded. My point is not that I agree or disagree, merely the why and how of "no ponchos".

Whether the Captain is dumb or not I'll leave to those that would know him. He seems to have a solid base of friends and that says alot about him... says things I respect. It's when you stop caring about how you present your ideas to the public that you lose ground and your ability to fight for your beliefs are eroded. Dude, Im not some old guy that doesn't understand you... I've fought the fight, I've been in your shoes, and if anything, by getting on your ass about spelling I'm helping you deliver your message clearer and with alot more respectability. Guys that worked for me in my tattoo shop didn't understand why I'd get onto them about their appearance when they went to court dates. Presentation is everything in the public realm, and sometimes brushing your hair and covering that ink can make the difference of spending time in jail or just paying a fine. Bingo.  You can be smart as hell, sharper than anyone else...but you turn in a resume or essay that has horrid spelling in it and it's going to get passed over.  I guarantee it.

Same goes for clothing.  Clothes do NOT maketh the man, but....and I think that may have been what your teacher was trying to express.

 

I think this whole conversation has taken a really weird turn. I happen to know Zombie did not intend to ridicule Captain with his first comments. I think he was trying to make a point and teach him something about communication. If you expect to be treated as an adult, then you should try to always present yourself as one. I don't know where the whole thing got off track, but I think everyone got a little too heated somewhere.

Captain, as someone who went to a school that had no dress code or any limitations on "creativity," I feel ya, but sometimes the outer appearance of creativity is not what it is all about. Some of the most creative and charasmatic people I have ever known look like your everyday Joe (or JU lol). Keep the focus on learning as much as you can. There will be plenty of time after school for ponchos and mohawks, etc.

I'm sorry everyone, but I don't believe that what I've said today is wrong. If you haven't figured it out yet, those last two paragraphs are my attention getting paragraphs. I tell you you can't disagree in hopes that you will. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing on here guys. Yeah, I'm sure you've all come to realize now that today was a bad day for me. From the negative attitude I was trying to display in the article itself I was hoping that whoever decided to comment was ready for me to continue to be in a bad mood. For some reason I just cracked today and couldn't take people even trying to say hi at school.

I've been rambling because I have a lot on my mind and it bothers me to think that people just see me as "another one of those teens". I try to do everything however I feel comfortable doing it. I don't smoke because I wouldn't be comfortable, but I was comfortable in the poncho.

I'm sorry, for bringing this up but one of my friends came to school with a gun in his bookbag. Clothing isn't the only thing hiding the weapons, kids are just not creative enough to do something like put a knife in a paper bag and just use it from there. No, they just do what's easiest and what they see on t.v. Don't blame it on being able to hide it because you kind hide guns in all kinds of places.

Now, back to my explanation... for some reason when one of my friends stood up to throw his trash away, at that moment I cracked and just couldn't find any reason to smile the rest of the day. It wasn't because of that, but it just happened then.

Today I had her fur coat on and everyone was messing around with it. Usually I'd be laughing and having a good time, but this time I just sat there, and almost got into a fight with someone because he said something about her boyfriend getting mad, where I'm probably a better friend for her than he is a boyfriend. From what I've heard they've even already "broken up" during their short relationship once before. Obviously, there's something wrong there and I think that's what made me madest about the kids comment. If anything, I'd hold him back just because he's her boyfriend.

Somebody else fell asleep in the seat behind me and I thought he was just trying to grab my arm so I hit him. Not too hard, just hard enough to wake him up and get yelled at for it.

Maybe tomorrow I'll be in a better mood and then I can come by and formally apologize to each person that I know I've been disrespectful to. But for now, I will just say this...

Dude, I'm not THAT bad.

Maybe you'd be glad to know that in our senior skills class we create this thing called a career passport where we create a Resume and many other things along with it. It takes us a week to finish one page of the passport, so you'll at least not have to worry about the original Resume having too many mistakes, in fact, there shouldn't be any what so ever.
