I like the idea, but an somewhat angered that you are using other people's images without their consent. The last image is a prime example. Many of those are placed on by other people, much like what the last image says, save the pics and use your own webspace :)

Thanks for the constructive contribution. What makes you think I don't their consent?... tell me clever guy, WHY DO YOU ASUME absolutly anything at all without knowing any of the circumstances, and then go and emphasize on your opinion? are you that lonely and unsure about yourself?

It's not that I want to justify an action that harms or is not suitable to someone... but I don't think that sharing one single picture, serving just as an example, will ever harm someones bandwidth.... it's not like it's the 90's...
"angered" who the fuck do you think you are? you silly lab rat...

I do know how to model & texture.
Plus I have retail versions of any software you could think of... (oh yeah, including 3d max 2009)

I do know how to build up an ENTITY file... or make a neat *.tga... even an imbecile like you could do it.
Go cry to the pillow fatboy... stop bashing my post.

Well, I think you're being WAY too harsh, Louis, calm down man. You don't need to go and flame them. However as to the point of him using other peoples work, half of those pictures are from TV shows or games, and those are public things. He has every right to use them. I don't see people crying about a star trek mod using Deep Space 9, why cry about using it as a misc space station? Personally, I would love to see this kind of feature added, I've allways wanted to make "cities" in space.

Just remember Louis, keep your cool, don't flame. Don't bash. Don't call names. Either ignore them, or tell them off politely, as I have done.

Well, the Last Stand, the mod I am working on, aims to add new defense platforms and military outposts, which, yes, can be placed in any sector, even uncolonizable ones (like the gravity well of a star for example).

As for hotlinking - I advise saving images to your computer, then uploading them to a free image hosting service like Image Shack. Not only does it save bandwidth (since you can post your images as neat little thumbnail previews for people to click), but that way you also avoid nasty code bugs like the one currently menacing this thread which reloads the page on my browser every half a second with the "hotlink alert" placeholder...

He was criticizing Louis using images HOSTED on another server, thus leeching their bandwidth. He wasn't complaining about any sort of copyright infringement. However, I doubt this page will get so much traffic that it'll impact anything on their servers so it really doesn't matter.

His Leprechaun statement was implying that this project may be too hard/impossible/vapourware. It's like the saying, "don't go chasing rainbows", ie. don't attempt things you can't do. He just changed it a bit.

That said, I have never tried modding this game, but with enough effort from the community, I wouldn't be surprised if this could be done.

Still, you need to learn to take criticism a little better. After your reaction, I doubt many people will be inclined to help you.

1 i could help but the response of this louis guy..... nah i wont help .... i dont wanna get shouted at sow....

YOU have an idea to make a space station??
the pic with "star trek" on it suggest someone else already created that thing...
(not to mention that screenshot of a homeworld movie...)
at least take the time to study the art of modding and start slowly.... nobody starts with huge projects (unless he/she has help)

the idea of space station itself is nice... tough it would be difficult to balance

moveable constructors are nice, but they ought to be weak.... Very Weak (or expensive)
this becuase construction ships are A primary target in a planetary assault (u know why.. ;)

space stations with turrets and hangars etc..... would make turtling profitable.... thus a rushing player would need some sort of station buster (boarding ship, siege gun)

so far the scale of stations is o.k. just compare planet size with a (guass)turret.. it's big enough for a defensive gun already.. so if u add a fort .. how big is it going to be?? 1/2 of a planet? 1/4 of a planet?

until planet size is increased (or structure, ship size decreased) we shouldnt add huge stuff :/
