When does the Tactical Screen ever show up?

I'm playing as the Alterians and I am in my 1st war with the Yor. I had absolutely nothing and only had tiny hulls so I designed "Space Barges" (Constructor hulls) with sheilds and put 5 of them into a fleet. I engaged the Yor fleet of some fighters and small ships and the battle just took place on screen without entering into the tactical.

When do you get to see the ships in the seperate screen? Also do you get to tell your ships what to do etc?

(btw all 5 of my barges died, wtf mate.)

First thing, you need to look in your options. In there somewhere is where you can set it to show the battle viewer for fleet battles and such.
Second thing, it is a terrible idea to use cargo hulls for warships, because cargo hulls have 1 hit point. That means even with defense, one bad roll and they're toast.

Oh and the battle viewer is just that, a viewer, the real number crunching you'll see at the bottom of the screen. Once you get it up you'll see.

Check the settings in the interface options, namely:

Show player ships in full battles (checked)
Battle length (Full Battles)
Full Fleet Battles (checked)
Show full fleet battles only if both sides are fleets (unchecked)
Auto-play full battles (checked)

Also do you get to tell your ships what to do etc?

No, there is no tactical combat in the game. The battle viewer is just that--it lets you view the battles to gauge the performance of your designs in action.

Cargo hulls only have one hitpoint. Defenses are a random opposed roll, so no matter how much you put on it just takes one bad roll (or an enemy with more attack power than your defenses) and the ship is gone. It's generally not a good idea to use cargo hulls for combat vessels unless you only use them to attack unarmed ships (constructors, colony ships, freighters, etc).

I let you pass in the last thread about cheating. You said you played GC1 and you just wanted to test the game banned take planets.

I'm on double secret probation from kryo for the way I handled my response.

Why would you think there's tactical in the game? Probably because you're not just a cheater but a liar and a troll as well.

Go away.

All right Wheel, there is no point in lying on a game forum.

In GC1 I never turned on the tactical mode b/c it always crashed my comp. whenever the screen entered into the tactical mode.

Also this was my first time trying GCII so I thought there would be some changes. I know in "Birth of the Federation" in the tactical mode there were options.

Wheel I think you are just being angry for the sake of it. You might want to stop being so dismissive.

So GalCiv2 has no tactical battles....?? Sorry to be honest here, but this is simply pathetic.

Masters of Orion which came out, what, 6-8 years ago is a FAR better game than GalCiv2. I've never been so angry and disappointed at a game before...

STARDOCK, please get it together. If you've any sense left, put in proper tactical - turn based - battles (straight out of MOO if you can't be bothered to write any new code) and release it as a free update to GalCiv2, ASAP.

Gawd I feel totally ripped off....

Why are folks to lazy to even bother reading about a game before they buy it? I am sure Stardock appreciates your monetary contrubution.

Seems akin to buying a Batman comic and then complaining that Wolverine isn't in it.

Besides Donfield's obvious point...

That statement alone is so ignorant, and sooooo sooooo soooooooo stupid, that you deserve to have your money taken from you.

If you could just copy and paste code like that, don't you think they would have offered a patch with tactical combat? What do you think the marketing team and developers are more moronic than you?

Please, please, please, go back to the 4th grade class from which you came.

If you havn't noticed,,GalCiv is a STRATEGY game.
Should you be desperate for having tactical comabts in a game of strategic scale,,feel free to try out Star Wars Rebellion and then come back and reveal how long you managed to play before setting fleet combats on auto resolve.

Then by all means stick to that game instead.
Old games aren't neccessarily bad game...I still play Jagged Alliance 2.

That would definitly be a copyright infringment on grand scale.
Now,,please answer the question why you feel so strongly about tactical comabt that only will serve to slow the game down without giving any real benefit to the overall game experience?
