Can't seem to save visual updates when creating new ship designs - plz help

Is there a guide to unique ship building? I think I've grasped how to build them with the actual upgraded components but I can't seem to save any updates I make to the look of the designs.

Can anyone give me a quick run thru on what you do, or point me to a newbie guide? I'd love to start modeling some cool designs like I've seen people posting here.

If you've updated to the 1.2 beta, this may be a bug.

You might want to roll back to 1.11

I actually downloaded and even just now updated to the new 1.2

Still, is there a guide? I don't think I'm doing things correctly, and I've no idea (just got the game last eve). Can anyone perhaps give me a basic rundown on what to do to make unique ship designs? I'd appreciate it very much.
