User Manual - Draft 1

The user manual is starting to come together. It's somewhat larger than the GalCiv I manual was.

Go ahead and check it out and let us know what you think. Bear in mind this is the first pre-print draft.

minimum requirement 32MB Hardware T & L? does this mean the end for intel graphics users like meself?

It'd be a good idea to create a pure black and white A4 or letter version for those who only get the download version of the game. Printing a booklet PDF with background is a waste of both toner/ink and paper.

I do have to agree with this, have downloaded pdf manuals that were the exact duplicate of the ones sent with the game via box. 90 pages of black background does get expensive

Looks decent but I see a few spelling issues and such. Should that kind of info be posted now? Sent elsewhere? Sent later?

well if that's the case then you *should* publish that the game can be played on intel chipsets (from 852/855GM/GME onwards) because i reckon there's a market out there for laptop users and TBS games, *apart* from me that is

You wanna know what kind of reaction I got in the comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic newsgroup when I made that same point in relation to Civ4? Firaxis cut out those of us on the low end. The majority of csipgs posters seemed to agree.

Hmmmm... Brad has my money and Firaxis doesn't. Coincidence? I think not.

Thanks Brad, for remembering those of us who don't have "power gaming" laptop machines.

First quick glance through the manual I spotted this:

1. Page 14 under "Understanding the Galaxy"
"Stars may be orbited by up to five planets, each rated from class 0 to class 15 (or higher when you've researched certain technologies."
I've seen a lot of planets in the first few turns of the game that ranked up to class 19. Is this an error in my game and the class range will be adjusted before retail, or is this an error in the manual?

I'll post more when I have time to take a detailed look at the pdf.

What effects senate voting, does the "war party"etc get votes for any reason or is it just random.

from the Intel site:

Intel® graphics products do not have hardware support for T&L. In most games, transform and lighting calculations can be performed on the processor with acceptable performance. A small number of games that specifically check for hardware T&L support may fail to run.

Ashbery76, I seem to recall that in GC1, the parties that got votes other than yours were usually areas you were weak in. Getting the fuzzy end of the lollypop in a war? The war party would get votes.

I don't know how noticable it was (didn't pay enough attention to it, actually), and I don't know if that functionality is in GC2 (yet) for that matter, either.
