I saved this one up for a day or two, just to make sure I'd still be mad enough to want to rant about it. Since the feeling is still there, here lies the rant.
My tolerance for stupidity is normally pretty low. I don't mind honest mistakes. I don't mind ignorance even. But I really hate stupidity. Doing things that make no sense and inconvenience the masses (especially me) makes me want to rant (if not much worse).
Therein lies my problem with the idiots that set up the parking situation at a local theme park this season. My daughter and a friend wanted to go to the park yesterday for their yearly Halloween celebration. No problem. My wife and I went to drop them off, with me driving the family SUV with all of us loaded up. I entered the parking area, drove up towards the front of the parking area and entered a lane with a sign posted that said "lane full."
Note the wording on the sign: "lane full." Not "no outlet." Not "no exit." Not "lane blocked." Just "lane full."
Can you see already where I'm going with this rant?! I proceeded down the lane, though my wife sluggishly mumbled something about "not here, further down..." but it was too late. I was already headed one way down the lane and had a few vehicles following me. I got down to the head end of the lane just in time to find out that my path was blocked. Completely blocked. Two large potted plant type containers blocking the path, with some of the flexible (fold over) plastic poles that fold over if you go through them. That would be fine if there was enough room on either side of the potted plants to get through the lane, but the idiots that set up the parking situation at this particular theme park aren't that bright.
After sitting stopped for several minutes, unable to back up because someone was right on my tail expecting me to keep driving out the other end of the lane (though the car immediately behind me had figured out that I was trying to back up and tried to give me room before he too was blocked in) my wife wound up having to get out of the vehicle to ask the chain of 4 vehicles behind me to please back up since there was NO OUTLET at the end of the aisle.
I was within seconds of making use of the SUV's AWD to jump the curb at the end (and side) of the lane. I sat fuming because of the stupidity that the idiots that manage the parking area. How could they not at least post signs that said "NO OUTLET" or "LANE BLOCKED" was just beyond my fairly simple comprehension. It would have taken just a few seconds to post signs that say NO OUTLET. It would take about the same amount of time to post signs that direct drivers to "kiss and ride" or passenger drop-off areas. Again, simple tasks that require just a minor amount of no stupidity.
Anyway, I fear for the day that there's a car fire in one of those lanes. Or when there's an emergency because a child or adult is struck by a vehicle. There's no way emergency apparatus is gonna get through the lanes in any manner of efficiency.
To the idiots running the parking mess, I hope you all are permanently stuck in traffic. I hope you're all stuck in hours upon hours of traffic jams that run your gas tanks out of gas and leave you sitting stuck sweating in the heat or freezing in the cold of the area weather. Perhaps a few tastes of your own stupdity might convince you to be more intelligent in how you manage the traffic that goes through your parking areas.
