System of Government

Reading through the mock/beta user manual posted by Frogboy here:

The screen discussing the Domestic Policy screen states: "When elections come, the AVERAGE morale (not the snapshot anymore) will be what determines the election"

uhhhhhh.... No. There will be no elections. My species worship an authoritarian deity with absolute power (Me)... and anyone who says differently gets stuffed into a Diebold machine not to be confused with a polling booth computer.... it is more akin to a space age blender with very sharp blades!

Seriously, though... won't we be allowed to choose our own form of government much like in Civilization III? I'm not saying we should be able to choose Monarchy or Communism however forced elections are, well.... somewhat undemocratic... especially if I, the Big Head, receive less than 99.999999% of the vote.

Chosing your own government would be great. Each have its pros and cons, and depending on your play style you would favor different governments.

As in GC1, you don't have to switch off of imperial if you don't want to. Your party would be supreme, and thus, so would you. You just don't get the benefits of the other systems.

your ppl will not care as much with a imperial government but your party would be supreme over the rest and hence you would not loose ur benefits. but not switching to more demo governments pumped up your econmoy like when u finnally got star federation. your economy is booming but its hard to maintain ur empire. However for some reason maybe because the arcean empire surrendered to me... i became very strong and evil and had a star federation and i was the most powerfull civ in the game for a while until the atlantarians became stronger... i wanted to erriadcate them but i was afraid too

hey, if theirs interstellar capitalism, i want interstellar communism. perhaps in the style of The Culture. though having an anarchist race might make it tricky to play as the government, there not being one and all...

Well the caption for the GC1 imperial system goes along the lines of : "Occasional displays of public execution and torture keep the general population in line" and I assume that is around the neutral criteria, You dont really need a caption to imagine your perfect society..

Use your imagination: Your society is yours in GC.

No, an imperial system does not suppose or demand any malefic tratment of the population. All it says is that you have one central power, and that it controls the rest. It's a network with a central point giving general directions.

But like you said, as in any game where something isn't included, you can still suppose it.
