The area in which we’re raised, the parents or parent that raised us, the people we’re raised around, all have a direct impact on our core beliefs. As we get older, our educations, our jobs, the people that we work around and grow to respect, have the same impact.
The things we see on a day to day basis give us the opportunity to try those beliefs against what we experience. Although I don’t believe that they have a great impact on our core beliefs. We often find reasons to still justify our stance.
A person that grows up in a large city, day to day seeing the problems, experiencing the benefits, and so on of that type of life style will most certainly have a different take on issues as opposed to one that grows up in a rural setting.
These settings and the core beliefs they espouse are what give us our political leanings. A person used to seeing social services provided and people receiving them on a daily basis probably grows up thinking this is the norm and the way its should be.
At the same time, a person growing up say in a rural or should I say “country” environment usually is more self sustaining and feels that others should be that way too.
I may not be explaining this to well, but this is where I believe we get such a gap between people’s beliefs and politics. We talk of getting people together on the direction the Nation is headed. Because of the reasons I stated, I don’t think that will ever happen.
You have Liberals and conservatives, left wingers and right wingers, Republicans and Democrats and Independents. Then throw in the extremes of all of these and you really have divisions. Each one trying to change the minds of the others. and their core beliefs.
While this is happening, babies are being born and raised, growing up a product of their environment. Developing their core beliefs and values.
Put immigrants into the mix, bringing beliefs and values from their countries. It makes it easy to see how this country has changed so much from the founding’s original intent.
It’s a cycle, even a circle, that doesn’t seem to a break in it, that you could grab an end of and pull into a straight line. (getting everyone going in the same direction)
