There are a number of control options, default settings, and missing UI info. In no particular order:
- Option to snap to top down view (a keybind and default). Top down is the best view angle for combat, but there is no snap to keybind or option, so you have to slowly pan to it.
- Turn off panning on right click option. Too often I mean to move, attack, etc. and pan instead.
- I cannot see my available capacity numbers for civilian or military building in the planet dropdown. I have to go find the planet itself to check this info, which can lead to incorrect builds. If I can't see capacity in the dropdown, it's back to going to the individual planets one-by-one.
- No clean interface for merging or splitting fleets, or moving units from one fleet to another. You have to play games with leaving fleets and finding the units on the map to move them around.
- No way to establish a new fleet at a certain planet (ie to set it up and have the auto-queue use nearby build to send to that place). You have to build a single ship, create a fleet with it, and only then is the location set. Otherwise it seems to pick an open factory at random for the first ship.
- It's too easy to have a current fleet reassigned to a new fleet when you create a new one. The default behavior shouldn't be to reassign the currently selected fleet to the new one, it should be to deselect the current fleet. I have to very carefully make sure absolutely nothing is even focused before I make a new fleet.
- There needs to be keybinds for: max zoom (ALL THE WAY OUT so you see the entire map, not somewhat as current Q), zoom into system my cursor is currently on (not last selected as E currently does, and not to the tightest possible zoom on the selected, but to the planet system entire), move directly to connected system in a direction (WASD but along phase lanes, so you can move around without having to zoom cycle).
- Star-star Phase lanes and wormholes need to have an option to show them without needing to mouse over.
- Clearer resource levels in the mouse over tooltip for planets (so you can tell base level incomes, number of mining sites without needing to zoom in and look).
- Ability to change default move type. You have to change every fleet to "move in formation" manually if that is what you want; there is no way to change the default.
- Change the default planet build behavior to be 'hold control to choose location' for most orbital structures (turrets and starbases excluded). The majority of the time you just want to quick build in default; it's only the planets near the front and defenses that really need you to position every orbital structure.
- The military command window needs to show more than just capital ships and starbases. I want to see my fleets here (this could be a place for moving things between fleets), as well as any loose ships (like scouts tend to be). This a great place to show a summary of the entirety of fleets for easy reference (the tiny icons in the upper left are only good for rough numbers). Without this it's actually hard to tell which ship is which (you remember by "the X in fleet 1", not the name).
- Being able to arrange and sort the planets in the planet manger would be very helpful. Right now you have to constantly click through and go to the planet to see where it is before you determine what to build there. Being able to arrange things (back line, frontline, research, mining, etc.) would be very useful. As it is, the screen is almost unusable once you have enough planets that you start to lose track of which is which by name or type.
- We need to be able to rotate individual structures. Civilian and military don't need or want to be moving together, and you may intentionally want to separate them. Especially if they were auto-placed together and you want to change that. Generally you might wan to have military stuff facing the phase-lane and civilian stuff in the back.
