I and a couple others are working together to build A feedback list for sins 2 based on our first impressions.
Negative Feedback----------------------------------------
1) Main menu: The main menu is just too static and blue. Nothing interesting about it. In Sins 1 it flipped between planets when you changed menu windows and that was really cool. I just expect a difference when I switch between single player, multiplayer, and modding, etc. The Blue color of the menu with the Blue text Blue planet and Blue starscape/nebula behind it is also a poor color combination in my opinion.
2) AI art: You get it. Honestly the map art is the worst offender. Sins maps have awesome little artwork on the main menu and the new ones seem a lot less interesting.
3) The ships all look a bit too "new" if you know what I mean. I know they are technically new since you're making the ships in shipyards, but the ever so slightly grungy look was great. TEC ships were converted industrial and commerce ships, Advent ships looked like they had just been polished up, and Vasari ships looked both evil and kind of old. The new ships are just a bit too sparkly for my taste, especially the Vasari ones.
4) The derelict loot looks way too interesting to just be called "Derelict Loot". They're giant brassy pyramids the size of an asteroid, they need better names, and a little but of backstory if they are going to be giant arcane constructions. "Derelict Loot" just implies a crashed spaceship with some frozen spices in the cargo hold. Also, why are they all the same pyramid? Some variety would be appreciated.
5) Lack of game options. I'm sure it's been mentioned previously but we are missing some of the essential choices like the super weapon toggle and such that are important for changing game play to suit your needs.
6) The research window. This is an issue I've had since sins 1. using greyed out images in the research window is not good for seeing future research, especially for big mods that expand the research window. Now that there are colored arrows between research you have and haven't done i think that greying out the research icons might not be needed.
7) Orbits. I haven't checked the designed maps, but i assume the reason everything on the 10 person random map is on a perfect flat plane was to make the orbits work. If that is not true, i think that the slightly uneven Z axis level of planets made the system feel more interesting.
8) Bug- On the mods page, when you hover over a mod then scroll with the scroll wheel it bugs out.
9) Diplomacy is way to simplified. Wheres the diplomacy research tree? Why is diplomacy so fast and easy?
Positive Feedback-----------------------------------------
Assume if it is not mentioned in negative feedback its high praise. I'm sure there's countless things we take for granted that were challenging to implement. We have played the first series so long a lot of this is just hard to call out in particular.
-Game looks incredible. Ten out of ten.
-Performance is off the charts. It takes me less than a second to load a save game. I don't know how that's even possible.
-Countless minor UI things that make the game better. Impressive work.
-Asteroids with sub asteroids that affect the grav well is awesome.
-I like the new system you're using instead of command points for building capital ships.
-Orbits are cool. An option for exceeding 1.5x speed would be cool. Imagine 10x orbital velocity.
-The new sound design is excellent, we love it.
