Welcome to the Galactic Civilizations After Action Reports (AAR) Board. For some of you this might be your first time with AARs in which case read the section following this one. But for those who know what AARs are and just want to go over the rules skip down to “Guidelines and Rules”.
What Is An After Action Report?
After Action Reports are stories told, either play-by-play or broad strokes inspired by your playthrough of a game, in this context a 4X strategy game. The specific style you pick can vary, from roleplay-heavy narratives to the cold calculus of something approach a let’s play in forum format.
Your AAR might include screenshots, you might divide it into chapters, or you could even opt for a more interactive style where between play you ask your readers to suggest what course of action you should take.
Due to the nature of AARs we expect some threads to be “bumped” from time to time that might be weeks, months, or in some cases even years old with new chapters in the story you are telling. This is acceptable but please remember not to hog the spotlight by arbitrarily bumping old threads.
Guidelines and Rules
- Follow our forum rules. This covers the usual suspects ranging from insulting other people on the forums to posting illegal or provocative material.
- Mark your AAR with tags for what it includes/intended for. Here are some common examples to use:
- [CANON] = Canonical Civilizations
- [FANON] = Non-Canonical Civilizations – This includes custom civs based on canon civs.
- [NAR] = Narrative-focused
- [INT] = Interactive AAR
- [SCREEN] = Screenshots
- [VID] = Videos
- Remember to use common sense when creating your narrative. It is perfectly acceptable to depict a malevolent empire conquering and enslaving all before it. Depictions of evil are not endorsements of evil. However, if we feel you are striking a little too close to real world atrocities you might be asked to change direction or close the AAR.
- Contests can be run on the AAR boards by staff or volunteers. If you are interested in running something, please reach out in a direct message.
- If you run an AAR on another forum, do not link to it. This board is dedicated to AARs run here alone.
- Spam Posts include:
- Bumping threads asking for updates.
- Posts that contain images and no text.
- Anything that typically falls under spam on the forums.
- After a thread has received no posts for 9 months or more it is considered “dead” by the moderation staff and closed. If you are the OP and wish it to be reopened, reach out to a moderator for permission first
