I recently decided to pick GalCiv III back up and give it a 2nd try. I wasn't a huge fan the first go around, but now I'm really loving the game. Kudos to the designers for doing a bang-up job getting this game into great shape!
But now comes my complaint. I have to vociferously voice this because it's ruining a fair number of my otherwise awesome games. It's those gadawful Peacekeepers! They are ridiculously overpowered and clearly aimed almost exclusively at the human player. Total bullsh*t. I've watched Peacekeeper ships zip right past assets of civilizations I've been at war with just to get at my assets which are further away. They beat the crap out of everything I own and hardly touch the opposition that I'm at war with. I'm at the point where I'm going to have to turn off those majar events just to get rid of them. They are wrecking the balance of the games I'm playing. Come on, guys, who in blazes decided to make these suckers so strong you have no chance of competing with them before they dismantle your entire infrastructure? And who decided to make them predominantly take on the human player? Stupid! To do this right their strength should be relative to the strength of the current combatants. If Peacekeepers appear later in a game I have no problem with juicing them up to make them a credible threat, but currently they are FAR more than a threat. If they show up early in a game they are an unstoppable wrecking ball aimed right at me. This can totally blow up a very fun game, and has quite a number of times for me. That's not in anyone's best interest!
