I was quite disappointed when I bought the DLC for Mega Events and this seems to be a text only DLC. It took me a while to figure out that the DLC was actually working as the first one I encountered seemed to be a bit of a blink and miss it event in its importance. I delayed buying the DLC as I was annoyed that I would have to buy something that was an integrated part of GalCiv2 but after GalCiv3 felt boring and staid I gave in. For me, a game should be immersive and as much as I hated seeing certain events in GalCiv2, I have to admit it was great to see the artwork representing the event as that broke up the game properly and made you feel like it was happening.
The art work in the rest of the game is gorgeous however not having artwork for a DLC is just a cheap cash in and undermines the quality standards of the studio. I have avoided buying the Revenge of the Snathi for this reason. I do not want to spend money to just get a few more lines of text to represent an "event". If the Dread Lords have returned I want to see something visual to represent it. If a species has been wiped out by you, I want to see it being exterminated in the last throes of destruction. Not a line of text blandly saying the Yor has been wiped out.
Ironically I would to get all of the videos subtitled or captioned as I am deaf and unable to understand what is being spoken in campaign mode or in the intro video.
For me, I don't know about other people, I have struggled with enjoying GalCiv3 compared to GalCiv2 as the drama seems to be lacking and very subdued. Even the very satisfying culture flipping everyone within your sphere of influence under ideology fails to have as much impact without the visual. No gamer wants to work for something and then when achieving it go "is that it?!"
