Apparently the motivation for dropping the wheel is to reduce micromanagement. I don't mind micromanagement - to a degree - and don't think the wheel forces anyone to micromanage. It merely enables greater control. My proposal:
1) Keep the focus buttons. And make them actually work in saved games, not just new ones.
2) Re-enable the wheel for those who want it
That should make everyone happy
