Weapon Accuracy

So I'm at war with another civilization with more advanced tech than myself, and find myself unable to hit hit their ships with my weapons. We're both using beam weapons and shields solely against one another, but their beam weapons will hit every time without fail, whereas mine will miss every time without fail. Both of us have reached the techs "Targeting Assist" and "Targeting Support," but even when I equip my ships with all of the corresponding components, nothing changes. Further, I bought one of their ships to examine the components, and they have nothing but disrupters, barriers, and a rapid recharge. Does anyone know what this is? Or is it a bug?

how were you able to buy one of their ships while at war?

 

I've honestly not had enough time to play with the ship mods to see what effects they clearly have, however in GC2 there were ship mods that affected the entire fleet.   


I've been looking for similar mods and not finding them according to the text, but that does not mean that some of their ships might not have something that is creating a fleet wide effect.

 

That said, in my experience the AI always wins when equal tech meets equal tech...  sooo yeah.

The game currently allows you to purchase the AI's ships when they are at war with you.   Currently when an AI declares war on me, I just purchase half their fleet and use it against the other half.   I even bought transports which I immediately used to take one of their planets.

Your lack of accuracy (as per your original question) may be due to the effect of a military star base.   Perhaps some jamming tech.

This may seem ridiculous (just like free upgrades to ships, etc.) but these things are extremely useful for testing how the game is working.   And that is where we are...testing.  So it seems right that these things be left until very late before they become "realistic". It's like the easy tech trading to take advantage of the AI.  The devs want us to abuse this stuff and see what happens and give feedback, not on whether it is reasonable but on whether the game mechanics are working.

Just saying, for all I know you are perfectly well aware of this.

There are no starbases anywhere near where my ships have fought. And anyways, you'd think that my ships decked out with targeting assist equpiment would still be able to hit sometimes. Also, another observation. When I buy my enemy civilization's ships, and fight them with them, the ships I bought from them still miss everytime while their ships never do. I scrolled through the techs that they had, and they don't appear to have any more military tech than I do.

As a side note, I'm playing as the Drengin fighting the Altarians.

It does sound like you got a bug.  Definitely send a save game file and details in a ticket, if you haven't already.

Sheesh not a situation I would like to be in.

The AI does seem to favour lasers and shields over the other assault tech.  Perhaps because they take less room ?

As it is, I can just design ships with shields and offensive weapons other than lasers to have a better odds of defeating their ships.

I have had similar issues hitting enemy ships, even without starbases nearby, and I don't think their ships had any form of targeting support modules, but I am not sure.

This is a bug. I also think an ai at war that will trade trade their weopons to the enemy is a bug.

Ahh I thought this was only happening to me - The AI hit my ships way better than I hit theirs - and I have also put on the targeting tech to try to compensate to no vail.

check your race bonus as well as your enemys, you may be loosing due to an 'agile' / 'precise' bonus or penalty from the fighting factions

Check the date of the post you're replying to. This was fixed way back in beta months ago. It turns out the problem was the Altarians' unique defense technology was giving them 1000% jamming instead of 10%.
