I remember when playing MOO2 that there was a planet called Orion. It was always hard to get to, but once you colonize it you received new unique weapons and ship. What if GC3 had a planets (let's say 3) that once you colonize them this would increase your offense and defense greatly. But if you loose even one of them the bonuses will no longer work. Or at least concept similar to this one.
Cheers!
I think there are plans for DLC that will bring in Dread Lord artifacts.
Planetary colonisation use to give you bonuses especially finding the disintigrating disruptor rifle factory on planet and the lucky ranger and precursor corvettes and rangers use to spawn from former precursor worlds that you have colonised. The ranger spawn was sometimes a game changer/breaker as it could wipe entire navies off the map!
I think devs resent hearing about Moo in comparisons. Apart from that, why not have a special mysterious world every now and then. Call them abandoned precursor colonies or DL worlds.
DARCA.
I liked the "Galactic Events". That served much the same purpose.
Especially now in GC3 where there's no fixed alignment system (I always found it annoying that those great events stopped when I researched Ethics and picked an alignment).
How ois your suggestion any different than funding the artifacts. You find on colonization when you played galactic civilizations 2.
It adds additional strategy elements.
