Hero dying in battle = no bad thing at all?

Hi Guys,

 

I have avoided to let my hero die since now. But in my last battle, he died. Nevertheless, my army defeated the enemy and I won the battle.

As a result, my hero got xp, the loot and NO injury? Or is there some hidden penalty for dying in battle?

 

Is this a bug or are Heroes that died in battle regarded as knocked down only as long as the army wins?

This would make a lot of fights much easier...

 

If anyone of you guys know about this, please let me know.

That's a bug. Normally, the hero will receive an injury, even if your army wins.

Sovereigns never get injuries, so you can sacrifice your sovereign in battle to win the fight (if you don't mind losing some mana).

Although if your hero dies and yet you still win the battle, the hero/es that fell don't get any experience.

Hm, sorry Steven, that seems not to be true.

 

I got XP (FULL) + lost NO mana [my army won].

 

Only if the army loses, it seems i lose anything..

 

BUG or intended?

 

PS: There is a bug with "scrying pool": once the city updated to +1 essence, the spell "meditation" is not updated to the new essence amount. One has to delete and recast it again to work as intended.

If you win the battle but lose your sovereign, I don't think you're meant to lose mana, but I also don't think you're meant to get XP on the unit that died.

So that seems to be a bug. The Sovereign got as much XP as it would have gotten if it had survived.

Nevertheless, time to start the war, monsters are getting extinct. (turn 75, large map).

I'm not sure if heroes are supposed to get XP even if they are defeated.  I'm pretty sure that henchmen don't.

"scrying pool" bug is good to know about.  I always assumed it worked like it should and never checked.   I imagine then that "heart of fire" and other per essence spells aren't working either. 

 

Did you report this in the bug forum so devs are aware?

I don't think the essence spells update until the next turn.  I'm pretty sure they fixed the bugs with essence spells staying fixed when essence increases (or decreases).

yep, I just tried it now and the meditation spell updated the next turn, so it works as intended.

Speaking of your sovereign dying in battle, I was rudely surprised in a recent battle attempting to eliminate an AI race when one of its heroes cast the "swap places with an enemy unit" on my caster sovereign. Seeing as how he was now in the midst of the enemy, he died without a chance to do anything when he was surrounded and mobbed by all the city defenders. Who taught this AI how to use that spell anyway!!?!?!

Aye, I noticed the AI casting shadowshift, somewhat randomly it seemed like.  Well he was going to lose anyway I guess there's nothing he could have done to change the outcome of the battle.

 

Now if we could only get the AI to use it's summoniing abilities in tactical combat..
