Maps - the new terrain value thingy?

I am fairly new to FE - only played the campaign so far.

For my first normal game if FE, i wanted to make a map and throw down all the different quests/goodies/monsters/terrain bonuses etc etc in the game so i can see what they all do. I did this for WOM too and it was fun!

But then i noticed these strange looking readouts hanging above certain terrain? usually near any automatically chosen starting locations.

I have also seen a few of these strange terrain readouts in the campaign as well, and had no idea what they do? As an example, in the campaign there are several of these running along in a line just below left of the dragon battle location and just above the Forrest where the big packs of wolves roam.

I played about with the map editor for several hours trying to figure out these terrain readouts but nothing! Then finally the map editor crashed.

Can anyone tell me what these terrain readouts are? why only on some tiles not others? and how do you edit them in the map editor?

The terrain readouts tell you the amount of food, materials and essence that a city would get, if it is founded on this tile.

Only on tiles with this readout you can found a city.

Also, if you found a city on a tile, be aware that a large diameter around your city will become unavailable for founding of new cities (IIRC it is a radius of 5 tiles around your city tile)

They are the values that tile has for Food (first number), material (second number). and essence (blue bottom number).

These are the base resources your city can harvest. the tiles adjacent to where you place your city don't matter (you can only get those resources from the tile on which you place your city). So pick the highest numbers you can find in the area you wish to settle.

The values are auto calculated from the world resources and tile types nearby (you can't edit them directly).

Thanks for the replies,

But how can people make their own maps if they cannot edit these terrain resources?? seems very bizarre?

And what are the implications of founding a city where none of these terrain bonuses exist? Can i compensate with terrain bonuses from the terrain bonus list?
