Good Morning
So I finished the campaign over the weekend and thought I'd post the good, the bad, and the ugly for others reviews and comments.
The Good:
- First off, story was great! Maybe a little drawn out in a few places, but overall was really enjoyed.
- Really loved the 'sudden reversal' plot, how Relias fulfilled the prophecy he was trying to avoid.
- Really loved Shayai at the end there. Wish there was a precursor engagement against her before finally finishing her off at the end there...
- Loved a bunch of the unique equipment that was picked up throughout the campaign.
- Lot's of heroes to choose from...
The Bad:
- Map 3 was an awesome map. I was really READY to sink my teeth into the campaign once the story got going....and then it was over. All of a sudden...slash....done. Really felt I was short changed and demands more story to come. (maybe that was the point?)
- Rebuilding my city each map was a complete waste of time. I received ZERO new buildings to add beyond what was already offered in the first map.
- The tech tree should have evolved from map to map. Having access to the whole thing right up front just was just very hollow and allowed you to hit enter 1000 turns and obtain all the techs on map 1. (not saying that's what I did...but it's a possibility).
- Combat encounters were WAY too easy. I was auto resolving Deadly combat's just because I knew the opponent didn't stand a chance.
- Didn't like how a hero triggered to join your group and you didn't get the CHOICE to have him or not. If you stepped beside him...you got him.
- Should have only allowed a MAXIMUM of 3 heroes in the party and if you chose to add another, you should have had to let one go. As is, too many heroes made the campaign a cakewalk.
The Ugly:
- Many bugs. (looks like many were already covered in 1.01 patch so good job there....just too bad game is rated on 1.0 release...not 1.01 patch)
- Heroes duplicated upon game load. This one almost had me quitting the game before completing it.
- Units duplicated upon ship disembark. Didn't need units anyways, so I left them...
- Whole wack of other little stuff
In conclusion, I fear that the release of the campaign in it's current 1.0 state is going to cost FE some critial metacritic points. Overall, the aspects that I enjoyed were the intangeble side of the game....the plot...the story. The bad and ugly superceeded my experiance to the point where it became a chore to finish. The simplicity of the campaign also had more coorilation with a tutorial than a campaign.
I don't mean to sound harsh, but hopefully the sandbox mode is able to pick up more points...
