So with my current series of Pirate Threads and Pirate obsessions. I actually did manage to come up with a strategy that was interesting although the results were awkward. As I dont think they were bad or good. Essentially what this strategy revolves around is being in the Eco Position as a TEC rebel, you do everything like you normally would. Expand, Trade Ports, Rinse and repeat. Upon reaching a stable economy(mine was +100 credits at around 20 minutes I believe.) I would start teching to Pirate Mercanaries and getting a communications tower upgrade. You would spam these on the front lines of your empire and once you felt the time was right you would build up fleet supply and spam the hell out of pirate Mercanaries(The Value Rating is 75-100 fleet supply per purchase). This will almost instantly give you a good mix of units and allow you to have a stable economy at the same time(for most of the game anyways). However this does require other persons to be dedicated eco players.
Now the only problem it had was that it was very vulnerable to the retardation that is bomber spamming. As it appears corsairs are the main unit that is spawned per purchase. I think the values between these two units needs to be switched where Reapers are the primarily spawned unit, and Corsairs are secondary.
Just thought I would bring this out as it was an interesting strategy and I enjoy it.
Notes: I did identify some mistakes from the last game I used this strategy as it was the first time I used it in multiplayer so it was sloppy and I should share this with you all.
- They need support just like any other fleet. This means give them some Hoshiko's to help keep them up and operational.
- Regardless of how strong their hulls are Chastic/starbases do retarded damage to them still. Ogrovs are a solution, chastic is just dumb.
- You don't have to upgrade shields which is awesome. Full armor also makes them very tanky and most pirate ships use autocannons so going down armor quickly is not a bad build path.
- just a guess but this strategy might actually be very, potent against the Vasari.
