Been Charged for Rebellion already

Hi, First of all i like what i see, game looks nice and I'm happy that i put down an advance purchase.

However i was a little surprised to see that my card has already been billed!  Surely this should only happen for a 'release' product and a beta is exactly that a beta or test version.  While I'm happy to test i would be keen to know when i might get the full product as its already been paid for... ..

 

BTW i only get one race right now? can't seem to change to another, its the beta only the one race ?

Nope beta is when they charge you. Only tec for the current beta is available

Yes i noticed, but is that normal or right? don't think Ive ever been billed like this before and Ive beta tested quite a few games.

Its been this way since the first beta rolled out back in 07.  Nothing new here to most of us.

It might be an authorization and not a withdrawal. Common practice now days with credit card/debit transactions. At least with my bank's online statements it will offer a filter between actual withdrawals and authorizations. Perhaps yours might do the same, i hope.

No it's a charge as stated by Darksxx. Nothing new or hidden here.

no its the full amount, my main concern is that it seems quite a way of being finished but hey no biggie

Authorizations are normally for the full amount. Otherwise there would be little point. I had an authorization but not a withdrawal from Stardock. *shrugs*

Preorders are charged when you are granted access to the product, be it beta or final. This is how we've always done it (we don't do free+open game betas).

Understood thank you.  can you give a time scale for final release? we talking weeks, month's ?

To be honest, this doesn't bother me in the slightest.  I know I like the game.  I want it and I would have gotten it after release regardless.  At least this way I don't have to worry about the release date now and go "oh crap!" because I forgot the release date and didn't make sure there was enough money in the account to cover the cost when the charge hit.  At least this way I know it's paid for when it fully releases.  Plus I like the early look at the game while it's still in active development.  Be able to submit my thoughts and read others while the game becomes a better fully fledged product for release date, because of the community participation.  Same thing happened with Minecraft and look how that game turned out.  And you had to pay during alpha for that game (granted it was a graduated cost depending on what stage of the development the game was at, at time of purchase).  In any case, I think it's a small price to pay early (to pay prior to release) and get front row access to the game and become part of the development process.  At least, that's my opinion.

I'm a little confused as to why you would think nothing would be charged until release.

If there was no payment until release, then what sense is there in taking pre-orders at all? Isn't the entire point to have people pay for the product in advance? Honestly, the only thing I was ever surprised about was that they even wait for the beta release, rather than bill immediately upon order.

I don't mind paying for this game.  I know i'm going to end up buying it for a few other friends of mine as well ( the poor bastards).

All I know is that once they have charged my card it means they will have to ship the game at some point, makes me happy!
