Yea, the first hint to people who know me that I didn't work on the tactical AI in WOM was that there was no auto-battle feature because without it, how can I easily test AI vs. AI behavior?
Now, in FE, the AI behavior is still pretty crappy (the new APIs aren't hooked up yet) but it's 100X better than what you got in WOM. Which brings up something a lot of people don't realize about game development vs. software development: Good AI != Good programming. My coding abilities aren't that great. In fact, they're pretty terrible at times. The tactical battle AI in WOM was well written. It just didn't provide good AI.
