About Vent, I've spoken with Trouser and KALEL and stuff about this a few times, so I can't speak for jon nor am I speaking on KALEL's or Trouser's behalf but at least they know my opinion and perhaps agree on it partially.
First of all, I'm not an extremely competitive player. I enjoy winning, yes. I do try to win, yes. But I don't "play to win" in that that is all I care about. If I lose I'm really not all that upset about it or anything and I'm liable to do stupid stuff all the time. I don't take the vast, vast majority of my games "seriously" and put in my A-game because that's just not the type of person I am. So do I want some sort of "super ultra premade"? No, that isn't really something that I care about and I've /pugged/ with uber-ultra newbs before. I don't mind, persay, playing with people I don't know.
However, I do have an issue associating with people when I play with X person who thinks that because they are on vent and playing with us it magically makes them awesome and unstoppable. I know it's sort of the opinion of the community (premades are uber-crazy-unbeatable players you stand in awe of) and perhaps that is just that opinion manifesting itself. However, it's really frustrating for me. On the EXACT other hand, you have these people who think they are special-sauce now but play /exactly/ like it's a pug game (read: little to no teamwork and more or less ignore anything I say). If you want to associate with us, then I need to be able to trust you. And sometimes I feel like that isn't the case with allllll these random people I don't know.
So. Let's say I'm playing games with Thunder and we are getting random people as our thirds. I play like a normal pug and I more or less ignore them the entire game and me and Thunder go around and win ^^; and, of course, I'm making fun of them on Vent because I'm a hedgehog like that D: All of a sudden this awkward third person is in vent and then it just throws me off.
A lot of these random people can play in the public vents "upstairs". I mean. That's what public vents are for, right? The purpose of "Clan Pacov" is just a vent that people can get in really quick with a simple password to play demigod with. But it's still, basically, public. Which is you know. What Clan Pacov's "clan mission" is: to be open, do alternate form games, get the chance for random puggers to expierence vent WITH OTHER RANDOM PUGGERS (read: not me).
I mean, I know it's a bit of a joke how much I abesolutely hate being bothered in game. But, ultimately, I play on Vent to play with people I know. I'll play the occasional random game and I do enjoy playing in-house games with whoever (eg, I'm fine with playing with random CP members against other random CP members. That's not the issue here). But if I want to play with KALEL some day and we are having a hard time getting a game going, we talk to someone upstairs and the first thing we here is that wonderful word "balance".
Now, I'm fine playing against KALEL and I've done it plenty of times. But, I'm in Vent to play with KALEL, not against him. I don't want to always play against KALEL/Pacov/Trouser. And I do enjoy playing with a few of the members there as well.
I've also said a lot of times that I want some form of organization. I want a roster, I want to know who these people are. Right now we are just some open public Demigod channel (which is sort of what pacov intended it to be), but /I'm/ not part of it. I mean, I'm sure that the majority of the community considers the whole lot of CP to be a hilarious joke.
The name is also... :-/ I mean, I know that CP was originally made up as a joke with the old-timers and it was funny then. Now that I want this to be more serious ... well yeah. That's just sorta inappropiate I guess. I will completely confess that I am a vain, fickle hedgehog and the fact that the name "Osmium Shift" is 1000 times cooler I am more inclined to play down there than up in CP.
KALEL mentioned a compromise of making Osmium more intended for CP's "other" games (AvP, Bioshock 2, Battefield 2, whatever), whereas the vent channels in CP are exclusively dedicated to Demigod, as long as we are given some sort of Private Game for the Oldtimers and some of the more competitive/skilled players in CP.
So this is what /I/ want:
- Some form of organization (we need an offical roster of top-players/oldtimers, people who just play on CP but don't intend to play seriously and just want to use it as an open vent, and people who want to get competitive but aren't quite there yet).
I want people to know that I am an elitist fuckface (with a dash of hedgehog antisocialness) and I don't need to play by their rules, or that I am their "equal" or whatnot and have no obligations to play with or against them, and heaven forbid if they pop into my channel and ask me if I'm in game.
- We need some form of official tryout methods to elevate people between statuses.
I don't want to turn this into Boy Scouts but we do need some form of a pecking order here. I need to know what I can and can't do (other than what society tells me. Like I can't randomly cuss out people).
What I think needs to be done in the short term:
- Removing Demigod channels from Osmium
- Creating a number of Private Game channels with different passwords for different "levels" of players. I know that hte old Private Game 1 channel was reserved for old-timers only. But I need to know if it's okay if I bring Thunder into Private Game 1 but not Private Game 3, for example.
- Roster and just planning more organization so we get more serious
- Eliminating non-demigod channels and moving them to Osmium.
- Having a serious-face chat about what exactly the future of what our clan is and what our intentions for it are so we all get on the same page.
