Minidump while enabling any kind of MOD in the game - Entrenchment 1.041

Hi everybody!

I need some help please(if somebody has an idea).

Everytime I want to enable any kind of MOD in the game menue, I get a MiniDump.

On both systems (XP, 32 bit and Win7 RC1, 64 bit) with old and actuall drivers.

Sins and Entrenchment downloaded over IMPULSE.

I had this problem since many months. Before the latest patch for Entrenchment I just copied the MOD´s I liked in the game path (with overwriting the vanilla-data, of course), and everything worked fine...that was complicated, but it worked for me.

But now I am really sad...does anybody has an idea?

Maybe some devs?

You know you don't have to delete the vinilla data right? Just put it in your mods folder and enable and disable them at will. Also many mods require the vinilla data to be there so that could also be your problem. Also make sure the mods you are trying to play have been updated to 1.041

Before I got that way with just overwriting the vanilla-data files, I tried it out with the normal way. And yes, I´ve tried only MOD´s which where compatible with my version of sins. I also made a backup of the vanilla data to set everything to normal.

1.041 - I tried Distant Stars and SoA2. They were updated to that versions.

And before this version, I had the same problem.

When I deleted the folder "PipelineEffect" in the Mod-Folder ("Mods-Entrenchment v1.041") as wrote in the Distant Stars Tread, I was able to enable the mods. But in SoA2 I had the feeling, that some things there are missing...

You know my point?

I just read at the Distand-Stars-tread, that it has something to do with the versions of Windows. I still have the German version of Windows and the English version of Sins (I do like much more the English versions )

I have no experience with SoA2, but I do have lots with DS (I did the pirate work and playtest). I do know that the Pipeline Effect file has caused problems in the past but we should be getting that fixed soon (hopefully with 0.90), it is from another mod and sometimes that can cause issues

I do not have any kinds of abilities for modding (okay, Star Trek Armada 2 was a nice game to tweak at some points, but nothing more...).

So I am grateful for every thought you have

I had this problem with other mods...and every mod had this "PipelineEffect" folder...

So I will wait for the new version of DS

yeah most mods have that folder ( and its problems) due to the Volumetrics/Bailknights mods. They are heavy graphic intensive upgrades (Volumetrics does explosions, and Bailknights does the gunfire) and sometimes cause conflicts. Word on the Volumetrics forum is the the latest update (which we put in for DS .90) corrects a lot of these issues. As for Bailknights, well that as become somewhat of a dead forum mod, but it lives on in other mods (like ours) not sure how much that will get cleaned up.

Hmmm...

Do you have any idea how I could use Volumetric or Bailknights Mod? Maybe delete some files?

Because I have to delete the "PipelineEffects" folder in every MOD.....

And I think I am missing something

maybe try using those mods themselves and see if that is the issue

but as far as I know the PipelineEffects folder controls mostly the effects of the abilities and not the weapons fire or explosions, so if it is deleted you only lose out on the abilities not being so brilliant in comparison to everything else

If you edit the EnabledMods.txt so that your mod loads at startup, and use the dev .exe, you might be able to figure out what's wrong. Even if you use the dev .exe, if there's something wrong with your mod(s), it will not give you an error if you try to enable it through the main menu; it will just minidump.

Try that and see what error you get.
