0706 Hours, July seventh, 3407, Earth relative military Calendar. 47 Ursae Majoris system, planet New Constantinople. SCIC Ship Nemesis.
The non-Einsteinian space of the Starstream slowly flowed by around the Nemesis, the untouchable Star Spheres disappearing into the distance as the ship passed, a portal opened before the ship.
Space was calm ten million kilometers from the world of New Constantinople-then space seem to expand from a pinpoint into a pulsing portal of green-white. And out of the other-realms the one point three-kilometer long cruiser Nemesis drifted out, the primary fusion drives blazed to life as the ship accelerated toward the planet.
Captain Alexander Kane watch as data scrolled across the tactical display, currently showing the surrounding space.
Next to a holo of the ship was a count down timer, 5:43 Seconds to the drop.
“Sir, incoming transmission from General Nelson,” Com officer Calvin Jaggers reported.
“Patch him through.”
There was a moment of static before clearing up to the sound of gunfire and small explosions.” This is Gene-l Nelson; commanding officer of One-oh-fi-Orbital Drop Troopers Company to Sol Core Interstellar Command vessel Nemesis-” the sound of a large explosion drowned him out-”eed help. CGA forces have us pinned down and out numbered five to one. Please respo-” the transmission was cut off by an even larger explosion for a split second before going to static.
“Jade, can you hack into the orbital Com gird yet?” He asked the small, green holographic woman to his right.
“Not yet sir, they locked the entire grid down with one hell of a firewall. At this rate, by the time I get into the satellite grid we will have gone through a thousand geo-orbi-those crazy bastards... They detonated the main central reactors for the entire southern continent...”
“They blew the Mariana reactors! What the hell is going on down there? They took themselves and half the continent up in flames!”
“Sir, system wide transmission from the capital city of Vensa. Playing now,” Jaggers said.“This is Colonel Faison Maine of the Colonial Guard Army. What you are about to see and hear is what the so-called defender of the colonies, the SCIC attempted to do to stop us from librating this Inner Sphere world from their tyranny.” What was showed next was a video of what appeared to be SCIC Army division Engineers and a Colonel ordering them to overload the Mariana reactors-”
cut the transmission.” He ordered in disgust and hatred at what these people-no, anyone that would do these could not truly be human any longer, even if they had once been.
He opened a Com channel to the ODT commander on the ship, Major Dante Lionsdale.” Major, things have just gotten worse, they blew the Mariana reactors and sent a system wide transmission blaming the SCIC. Your new objective it capturing this Colonel Faison Maine, take him alive. You will be dropped half a kilometer from the capital since it seems that this Faison sent his message from the Governor’s office.”“Yes sir! They think they can get away with doing this to my home world their in for a big surprise, sir.”
“Good luck Major, and God speed. Bridge out”
“Good luck Major, and God speed. Bridge out.”
The Captain had closed the channel. Dante yelled in anger and knocked a small crate over before calming down. He had never thought it would get this far, the entire war, never had he thought that they would make it into the Inner Sphere, and his home.
He marched out of the his team’s Drop Pod, and into the main cargo bay twenty meters aft.
“Listen up Marines! These sons of bitches just made the biggest mistake in history by attacking my home world. Now we are going to go on a trip to the capital and show them what it means to mess around with the best in the Corps! Am I right Marines?”
“Sir yes sir!” They replied, they knew that he had a temper, he had lost his parents to when he was fifteen to a CGA bombing on the Middle Regions world of Onyx, that had been fourteen years ago, two years after it had started in the Outer Regions.
“Drop time is three minutes people, now finish stowing your gear and get in your Drop Pod double time!”
He watched as the men and woman under his command continued with the utmost efficiency, and at 1:44 until drop they were entering their team’s Orbital Drop Pod or ODP. There were a hundred pods on the ship lined up in two rows, each carrying down four ODT and gear to the Drop Zone to gain a foot hold and secure LZ and any intel on enemy positions before standard forces with heavy armor and weapons arrived. Or the more dangerous SpecOps like now. After they clear out the DZ Drop Ships would land and deploy tanks and walkers.
He entered his team’s pod and strapped in, and finished a second before the timer hit 0:000.
The ODP lurched and was ejected out of the ship with a huge force on a per-calculated course that would take them to the waterfront. The pod shook and the inside of the pod began to heat as the outside glowed.
As the pod descended through the atmosphere new data from scattered forces that had been outside the blast area of the Marianna reactors of massive CGA raids, taking vehicles, infantry weapons and anything else that wasn’t nailed down.
0722 hours, Vensa city, half-kilometer from capital building. Drop Zone, ODP 28.
“Clear, sir. No CGA combatants in sight.” Private Jason said over the Com from on top of a small rise.
“Let’s move it Marines, move up on the four story building at one-oh-clock. You take point Private, Mendoza you take rear guard, Lee with me, center,” Sergeant Venison M. Gerald ordered.
Everything had been quickly re-planed during the drop between the command pod and the rest. They had no choice, they needed to knock out enemy leadership to disorganize them with all the raids for heavy weapons, otherwise it could cost more in the long run to take them out.
As they made it to the top of a hill on the other side of a gully they saw a large forest: ponds, benches and small playgrounds of the Vensa Central Park.
“Duck! Sniper on the roof top!” They all dropped to the ground seconds before a shot from a Particle Beam Rifle went through the area that they had been seconds before. They rolled back down into the gully they had crossed. It was rare to see a PBR in the field; they required massive amounts of energy for every shot and were so expensive that less then a thousand were know to exist.
“Mendoza, take him out.”
“Yes sir,” he replied as he un-lumbered the small, three-meter tubing with a firing stud and power pack on his back. The Cydonian Foundries 77-Magntic Coil Rifle, standard sniper rifle for ground forces. It could fire a small round to 7000 meters per-second, and would go through nearly anything that was in the way. But the power source limited it to four shots per power cell.
He attached a scope to the tubing.” Jason, give me firing data,” he asked as he lay still, ready for the feed from the Private’s Fiberoptic Cable.
He walked in a crouch and stopped six inches below the rise, and gently slid the FoC along the ground until was over the rise.” Sending data now.”
He adjusted his aim and fired. The round went right through the hill without slowing down and hit the sniper dead center, he exploded, sending pink pieces flying over the rooftop.
“Clear, sir.” He reported.
“Move move move!” He shouted. The sound of CF 55-Pulse Coil Assault Rifles could be heard as they moved through the forest. The 55-Pulse Rifle was weaker then the CF 77, only firing at two thousand meters per-second along five feet of tubing in three round burst, able to fire twenty rounds before a new power cell pack was needed.
A CGA patrol came around a corner as they moved out onto a path. The Marines brought their AR’s to bear before the enemy forces could. They staggered their firing so they didn’t end up reloading or replacing a power cell at the sometime. Rounds went wild in the chaos, hitting trees and benches causing them to explode. The Marines Nano-Sheet Fiber armor could was able to keep a limited amount of rounds from penetrating, but for ever round that hit that didn’t injure or kill sent them flying back to the ground. After four minutes the fight was over and the Marines moved on, appalling fresh patches of Nano-Fiber over weaken sections. They made it to the building without any farther incident. It was a small apartment building, the front door was locked. Lee smashed a window and threw in a Flash-Bang grenade, seven seconds later it went off and two seconds later the Marines had kicked the door opened and took in the sight of the lobby: three CGA knocked out over the check in counter and another two on the ground by a table.
“Secure them and police those weapons.”“This is Major Dante to all SCIC ODT, Drop Ships arrive in four minutes. Keep the perimeter clear and be ready to move on the capital building as soon as the Ships arrive. Field HQ out.”
“Move up to the second story roof, make sure all the rooms are clear,” they had made it to the roof after checking each room with thermal googols, they had all been clear.
It was 3:11 on the timer for the Drop Ships.
“Sir! Incoming bogies, four Shiva scouts on the east road.” Mendoza reported.
“Take them out.” Gerald ordered. The Shiva’s were a hundred meters away when they opened fire on the vehicles, trying to take out the gunners before they could return fire. They had either overconfident, stupid or both because they swerved and weaved on the street, keeping the gunners from aiming.
One of the vehicles crashed into a mall on the other side of the street as the Marines took out the rest.
“All hostiles down, nothing else in the area, sir.”“All ODT move out. Head to the capital will the greenies take care of the rest of the city. Field HQ out.”
He knew the slang, greenies, those that had never been in a ODP, entering the atmosphere of the planet at high speeds with the inside heating up to a hundred degrees.
“Time to pay the new governor a visit. Pack up and lets move.” It took less then thirty seconds to repack their gear.
Tell me what you think and if I made any mistakes and anything that would make it better. And would Nano fiber work good enough? I just thought of the strongest thing I could. And of course you can post this else where as long as you remember to put up my name. And to any that are not members of this site or haven't posted here: I will hunt you down if I find this anywhere and being claim as your work and either sue or... the more fun option of glassing your house. Just joking about the last option. Thanks.
Edit: And there is another ship with a far stronger hull: The Forerunner Dreadnought/Keyship. That thing when fully operational could make stars go Nova, or big stars go Super Nova. I would be running for my life if I saw a fully armed and working Keyship coming at me.
This has been a UNSC transmission.
