Competition

Is there a really competitive league? I simply can't find motivation to play, and play hard, when I keep on getting paired up with and against noobs. It's like.. I could play Demigod.. and lose because my teammate did a quarter the damage of me. Or, end up with AIs. Or against AIs.

I think now the connection issue has been resolved enough that I pose that the real issue with playing Demigod is not connecting to other people. It's finding other people that are fun to play against, and enough of them.

Actually most of my games w/o AIs were rather competitive/enjoyable, I guess you were just unlucky.

The game is still very young, only been out for a couple of weeks.  Also, most of this time it has been hard to get a game larger than 2v2 up and running, deterring a lot of people from playing until these issues are squashed.  I suspect as the remaining connectivity issues get ironed out, more and more people will be returning to Demigod and the skill level will increase.

ya i believe group gaming is on their to do list--hopefully with a ranking system that allows for competitive play--right now im sorta in the same boat--looking for a harder competition--i know its out there--just no system allows the competitive to meet atm.

Demigod needs a 2v2+ ranked system thats exactly like supreme commander.

& 3 v 3 & 4 v 4 & 5 v 5 All would be fun, 2 Clans 5 vs 5

it would give more meaning for clan battles, 5 vs 5 Epic Brawl

There's no reliable matchmaking service, there's no ranking system displayed in game, statistics recording is unreliable....

 

Should I go on for reasons why it's going to be hard for this game to be "competitive" in the sense that most RTS are competitive nowadays? 

 

Those problems will probably be taken care of at some point, but how knows how many people will still be playing at that point?

i disagree-- even competitive modes will have bugs and balancees that need to be worked out. might as well get them started asap.

im a competitive demigod player

but it seems when i play with people its too easy

im looking for players, groups, clans that are willing to play some big games (inhouses)

with some pro players that dont leave at the first sign of danger or loss

The more you play the more you will see that change. If you win over and over you will start getting paired against harder people.

Unfortunately, it also seems like if you have won alot you also get paired with noobs and idiots like DiesMore (which he does). After the first one he asks 'What, no heal?' because you are playing Sedna so obviously you are meant to follow him around and heal him the whole game.

Even Supreme Commander had 1v1 ranked at retail.

 

I could play the game more and get matched against better opponents... but that would involve wasting a fuck load of hours playing against AIs.

That's a fair point, but DotA had to wait a while and become very much a popular phenomenon before structured competitive leagues etc were in place...and I suspect that a great many people (myself included) were originally so drawn to Demigod exactly because it could offer all of those things which DotA does not.  That's why it's such a disappointment that it doesn't have any of those things working.

It really just underlines the fact that this game and the online client are both nowhere close to being release-worthy.

Ain't that the truth. I was once teamed up with an Oak who got that skill that allows you to come back to life invulnerable for ten seconds and used the skill to run to the healing crystal and dying there. He did this three times! OK, everyone has to start somewhere and we all make (or at least made) stupid mistakes, but how hard is it to at least cursorily read what a skill does when you pick it up?
