Impulse is getting better every week

I recant my previous statement about Steam, I have witnessed Impulse improve significantly every week since the launch of Demigod and know that they will eventully have all the features other game distribution and community programs have...

Didn't help with Sacred 2, and a few other games as well. I understand the argument for Steam, but from what I have seen, simply putting a games on steam doesn't just magically = million more sales.

Not that I would be opposed if they decided to do that (i don't care either way and already own the game) but I think the benefits of putting a game on steam is somewhat exaggerated and there are some issues as well (steam take a cut, patching issues, ect).

Demigod already has a very good digital distrobution system (impulse)...probably not a whole lot of benefit putting it on steam.

Are there any servers on the list?

Th original plan was to go P2P as I understand it. Only after release was there talk about proxy servers as a fix. How then would having 'hundreds of more servers' do anything? Should actually be 'hundreds of servers' since there were no servers initially.

Steam is super! If you play TF2 or CSS.

I have not tried many other games admittedly. I did try Deus Ex as it is one of my favorite games in recent past. It didn't work. Apparently there are issues with running a game like that on a newer system and since Steam did not actually change anything to make it more compatible... it didn't work. They didn't mention any possible issues when I paid for the game though. They also never offered a fix or any information during the time that I tried my own fixes (or fixes from the internet - outside of Steam)

I'm not saying this makes Steam a bad product/service. I'm just saying it makes them another service. They all have issues that will arise, especially with new releases. The difference is in how they handle those issues and how they work to resolve the issues.

I like Steam. I like Impule. I like Demigod on Impulse. I like the community and support from Stardock.

They already have in many ways. Steam didn't start doing their weekend promos until SD started it on Impulse, and now every service has weekend promos - D2D, Gamersgate, even GOG.

But besides the whole competition thing there's the principle that they can't put up a game on Steam without using Steamworks DRM (and they take 30% too).

There are other issues with steam...especially with 3rd party support. Many 3rd party games have problems with patches and cause the steam versions to fall behind. I have waited weeks for a game to be patched on steam, while everyone else (retail, D2D, Impulse) had the newest version. The problem is from what I understand the patches have to be specifically developed for steam and then certified by steam before going live...this often translates to delays. And in a primarily multiplayer game...this is not a good idea. Would suck to miss out on a tournament because your game is waiting on a patch.

For all Valve games steam is brilliant, but i have seen many issues with it's 3rd party support.

There was a time when people said the same thing about foreign car companies competing with the big 3. We all know how that turned out.

This is a relatively young industry, the idea that Steam will somehow own the entire market for all time is pretty silly. Now if someone wants to point out where these extra millions in sales will come from, I'm all ears.

I mostly scanned the posts, but I didn't seem to see anything about the fact that Impulse is Stardock's. It was made by stardock. Putting Demigod on Steam would be like putting Half life or TF2 on Impulse.

Besides, Impulse has only been around a year. I definitely think they can get to where steam is.

I ask all you Steam lovers to check it out. I love Steam (although I do prefer Impulse now), and I thought it was a very interesting read.

Steam vs. Impulse has nothing to do with Demigod's multiplayer.

While I know some people love Steam (myself included) just as some people do all their shopping at Walmart, I don't think it's a good thing for anyone if there's only one way to buy games digitally.
