At the expense of a few participation points in classes & friends yelling at me to get off the computer, I’ve been playing pretty much non-stop since Monday afternoon. Here are some thoughts so far on the game:
EXTREMLY addictive. This is the great type of game that you sit to just play one skirmish and the next thing you know you’ve played 5+ and have lost 4 hours of your life.
This also leads to my main criticism; there is a lack of depth in single player and tournaments. Other than favor points, there is no real benefit to winning any given match during a tournament. I just got done playing through a tournament on ‘hard’ and won the whole thing while being on the losing team half the matches. There needs to be some sort of persistent attribute to winning a tournament match, like say letting the player with the most favor points at the end of each match pick a buff for either themselves or whichever team they play for in the following matches (+25 HP per level, minions do more damage, etc).
Also, the lack of a tutorial is pretty annoying. As someone who has never played a single game of Dota and picked up this game just because it looked interesting, it’s annoying to have to learn some of the basics just by accident. I didn’t realize you could buy things other than potions from the shops until literally 4 or 5th skirmish. I still feel like I’m missing things.
I think another great addition would be demigod specific armor and such that boosts their skills. I think the best way to put these in would be to make them favor items. (example: a talisman that lets the rook put an extra tower down for every skill level it is on). This would be another excellent persistent component, and make the game feel like more of an RPG.
Other than that, I’d like there to be more maps & demigods to play with but I’m sure that is something that will naturally be expanded on in the coming months (along with fixing the online issues).
