Well, whenever I open demigod, and the cinematic goes, it is stuck on a black screen after. Also, when I press ESC to skip the cinematic, nothing loads.
Off the top of my head I'd say make sure you have the latest video card driver.
If the game is hanging after the intro vids or when going through mutiplayer menus, there is nothing wrong with your install. Those are due to the excessive load on the pre-release servers being caused by the early Gamestop release and the many pirates.We're hoping to have the production servers up tonight or tomorrow, and likely on different IPs so that the pirates will not be able to bog them down. In the meanwhile, the game should proceed to the menu if you give it a couple of minutes for the update check to time out.

A temperary fix for me was to disconnect my computer from the internet, I couldnt play multiplayer, but i could check out single player
