Question about Pantheon...

Was planning on picking the game up on Tuesday when it was released, but on a whim I stopped by the local Gamestop so see what time they'd get the game in. Noticed they had a copy sitting on the corner counter, so said hell with it, picked it up brought it to the register figuring they'd tell me they couldn't sell it til Tuesday(it's happened before with a nameless game). So when they swiped my card I was a little shocked.

Anyhoo, figured I wouldn't be able to do anything multiplayer since the game wasn't supposed to come out til Tuesday. Was still excited figuring I could try out single player, since I had not played the game in beta. After a few tourneys, I said meh, I'll try multiplayer expecting nothing to happen. Well after a minute or two, a game popped...

KK, sorry for all the backstory, it's 7am I haven't slept... So my actual question was.

I played Pantheon and got maybe 4 games tonite, but every game I got it was me vs 2 or 3 others. 3v1, 2v1, etc...

I'm not sure how the mutliplayer works, but is that what's supposed to happen?

I'm not even 100% they were actual people I was playign against, I mean I won all 4 games, and I had only played maybe an hour or 2 of single player on normal.

I tried typing to them... But never saw any of them respond.

I played as a Regulus(sp?) and was matched up vs 2 or 3 guys(I think they were people they had weird names and what not).

I never got a teammate(I do realize only a few people actually got the game) but is that how it works?

Sorry for all the typing again... Tried reading the manual and stuff but I don't really understand the Pantheon(I think it's still in the Beta version tourney?).

Your games were vs. AI only. You can check this very quickly by hitting tab and look at their pings.

The teams were uneven because of the ratings:

If one player, who owns everything everytime wants to play pantheon, he will be matched against a superiority.

It´s based on the Elo system.

You won´t find many games with human players now. The game is going to be released on tuesday (on monday, the beta testers will get their access).

Although the way one game was played it made me feel like they were human. Although I don't know how to check their pings(never thought about that). Oddly their names seemed like a human would pick.

Also the way it went down was...

I clicked Pantheon, it started searching for a game, a few "probable" matchups game up, then vanished went back to search, til eventually a game popped.

And I didn't own everything, if what I think you're talking about, I had like only 1 of the lowest favor items, I only played 2 tourneys on normal.

Anyhoo... So if someones highly rated they will play against multiple opponents? And if your not you get teammates?

Sorry for all the questions, I tried looking for an FAQ or an explanation of the multiplayer system, but I'm only finding basic knowledge type information.

Oddly their names seemed like a human would pick.

hehe dont fall for that trick. SD did this purposely. Some A.I names will be something like "hihi131".

And btw, when your hitting tab and checking their pings, if its 0 then its a.i

And Nohkra im too sure if thats right. I Think the reason the Pantheon games have weird match-ups atm is because the game isnt meant to be released atm so the Online wont be working properly till Monday/Tuesday. (I think...)

The names of the AI are very confusing. In the early beta the AI had names like:

Normal_AI_Rook

or something like that. But those names didn´t fit the game flair, so the developers added some names for the AI (like Steve87 or Duriel etc.).

You can check their pings (and overall stats) by hitting the tabulator key (the one over capslock).

I can´t say how the pantheon works in detail on connection, because they changed a few thins after the beta ends.

Back to the rating:

For instance, if the player whos on the first place in rankings, wants to play a pantheon game, he will get something like this:

a ) strong opponents, nearly even teams

b ) weak opponentes, matched up against a superiority

c ) or weak teammates and strong enemies etc.

Ahh, makes sense...

Thing that really confused me was the searching for the game that took a few minutes with "probable" matchups popping and then going back to searching(making me think firewall or couldn't p2p connect). Gave me the feel of I was actually being matched up with people. I wasn't aware that multiplayer matched you up with CPU players, I woulda figured that's what SP Skirmishes were for.

I guess I just don't have the information how Pantheon works exactly... Besides the basic details, I can't really find any in depth stuff. Like how come it was 3v1, 2v1 etc...

If they did not resetted the stats yet, the AI has maybe 300, because the beta testers were fighting against it the past months.

Demigod now tries to make the game even, by looking at the ratings.

So your team has 1000, one enemy 300.

You will be matched up against 3 or 4 AIs:

1000 vs 900/1200.

Thanks a ton... Makes a heck of a lot more sense now. Is that how it's gonna be for Player vs Player? Cause that actually makes a lot of sense for faster game match ups. Instead of waiting for like 3v3 of like skilled players they could just have 1 high guy against 3 lower guys. Or am I completely wrong?

Just seems weird how the matchups are from a standpoint of I'm used to like 1v1, 2v2, 3,v3, etc type stuff you in see in other games... There doesn't seem to be any parameters for games? Sorta random, not maps, but opponent numbers, etc?

On a sorta off topic thing... I tried 6 out of the 8 Demigods and I got the sense of Regulus being slightly easier to handle(basically seems the strongest), I checked out the Top Demigods and saw him up there. Didn't follow the beta stuff much, can you give me maybe and off the top of head type run down on them balance wise? I'm having a hard time playing as a General, finding Regulus to be the easiest followed by Torch. Just finished playing DoW2 for last few weeks, not sure why the Assasins seem to be easier to handle for me then the more RTS oriented ones.

Regulus is probably one of the easier to play Demigod and if you are the better player you can dominate easily with him but in an even match he was not really overpowered during Beta. As I don't have the release version yet, I can't really say anything about the balance on release but from the notes he didn't get any buffs. The General were a tiny to bit underpowered during beta but with the improvements for them in the release version they should be on par. However the generals take a bit longer to get used to so they might seem too weakin the beginning.

Rook and Torchbearer were pretty imba during beta but with the changes made to them, the game should be pretty balanced. I think if you are the better player you win no matter what Demigod you pick now. Balance is surely not perfect but for the first release version it is very good probably.

I don´t know if you get the "Day 0" patch yet. With this patch, more balancing will be added.

It´s true. With Regulus you´re able to hold your enemies down. His fast range attack is really annoying for others. But with the right combo, Regulus will die in a few seconds

The generals aren´t that bad. Except Lord Erebus maybe. But with the Day 0 patch he will get boosted, the assasins will get some changes, too.

I don´t know if you get the "Day 0" patch yet. With this patch, more balancing will be added.

Those who have active serials from retail copies can indeed get the Day 0 update off Impulse.

Kyro can you confirm the Pantheon is meant to have uneven teams (3v1, 2v1 etc.) to balance out the Elo ratings?

Yes. Uneven teams is by design. It looks at the rankings of the player.

For instance, 1 player might be put against 3 "easy" AI. We've found that people have more fun playing against "the odds" even if the odds are technically even.

I guess you haven't played against 3 humans in a domination game that was not any fun for the lone human on other team

I agree when u pit against humans its not, and even against the AI it just seems uneventfull when they lead themself into death lol

That seems sorta tough for those holding the flags type games... I had one vs 3ai earlier, thankfully they weren't smart and ony held one flag while I held 2.

But with humans a 3v1... All the 3 have to do is just go around can cap the flags, seems pretty difficult to win a game like that even against 3 mildy incompetent people(me).

Can you join Pantheon with other players? I haven't heard any mention of this. I know it wasn't working correctly during beta, but what I want to know is if you have a group if you can all join the same ranked matches.

It sounds like a silly question, I know. The hopeful obvious answer should be "yes", but I wanted to confirm. It would be horrible if you could only join ranked games with random people and it would also defeat the point of competitive team play (which I dearly want for Demigod) to the point that there won't be any teams, just you with random people who may or may not want to work together.

Without offending anyone, I'll be honest. My general opinion of the average person in the gaming community is pretty darn low. Say what you will, but I'm a logical person and I've yet to see any evidence that would get me to think otherwise. At best, I find a few shinning gems; people who are actually fun to play with over the rage quiters\whiners\arrogants\ect, but they're the exception more than anything else.

This flag-mode is tough against 3 AIs. I had it once in the beta. Had to invest in movespeed only to be able to capture everything back^^
