Default ship stronger then player designed for no reason?

I occure some interesting "bug"? not sure, i came back to gc2 after some months.

the problem is simple that it seems that the predefined ships have more capacity then the ships i design. for instance:

-a medium class ship for terrans predefined by computer has 10 MK5 LASERS + 1 Deflector (not sure now for level)

-a medium class ship i design has only 52 cpacity, which given the size of MK5 laser means i can fit only 8 of them....

anyone can explain please?

it's a bug  ... don't know if it's fixed in 2.0 though

Well I know if you build custom frigates, or small vessels, you don't have enough space to make the ship as good as the pre made ones.

 

Specifically you can't put a gun and a +1 movement engine on them but the pre built ships can move 2 parsecs .

 

Unless I overlooked something obvious.

I get this too - it's quite annoying.  I can't build my own scout ships, because there is no room for the engine.

2. Research miniaturization.  It lets you fit more stuff onto your hulls.
3. Use cargo hulls.  You can fit vastly more stuff on them than tinies or smalls.
4. Don't use scout ships.  Scout with colony ships.
5. Research up to Impulse Drive for +1 speed as a passive bonus and use Ion Drives on your ships to save money.

Did I miss anything?

Yeah, that slipped through the cracks.  It's base 2 speed in TA, but the shipyard didn't get updated.

Doesn't look like it - I re-downloaded "GalCiv II" and both attachments just yesterday, started a new "GalCiv II - Twilight of the Arnor" game, and immediately ran into this problem.  If I take the engine off the initial scout design, there's no room to put it back.

Thanks for the tips.
Scout Ships was just an example, though; the problem remains for the other ships.  I would like to be able to make the first ships myself.

I can't remember if the scout ship has a ghost/clone engine on it or not.  See if the speed actually goes down when you remove said engine.

Did you update from SDC or from Impulse?  SDC doesn't have 2.x, which is where the problem was patched.

The speed remains at 1 when I remove the engine.  So... the engine isn't really there, that's it?

Version is 2.02, from Impulse.
