If you are, did you look into using cover cloths?  You posted a while back in the GalCiv2 board that you had some issues with the little guys when you went to open the hives.  I gathered that you weren't using a cover cloth from what you wrote.  I suggested looking into one, but that was a busy time.  You may not have enen noticed.  If you haven't tried using one, you're really missing out.  It keeps the little guys a but calmer and you don't have to use near as much smoke.
