I just finished ( lost ) a match on a large galaxy vs 6 AI on Challenging difficulty.  I was playing as the Altarians trying to chase down the Zzorg ( custom race ) who were collecting ascention points.  Well in the end I couldn't find their last starbase and the game ended with the video and DEFEAT screen but it said that the Altarians ascended rather than the Zzorg who actually won the game.

anyone else see this yet?  i wonder if it happened only because the victor was an AI custom race?
