SUGGESTION: Dyson Sphere

ok before you all ask what it is;

basically a Dyson sphere is a system of orbiting solar power satellites meant to completely encompass a star and capture most or all of its entire energy output.

I think this would be an awesome addition to the game/expansion, and make stars more exciting.

It would obviously need to cost a lot of resources and require a long building time, but a decent benefit upon completion. Although in reality these dyson structures are to capture power, we dont have 'power' as such in soase, so i suggest that are able to contain a large/huge number of logistic slots that are 'powered' by the suns immense energy.

different type of stars would have different power levels, allowing for different amounts of logistic and tactical slots.

How many planets is it going to take to build a Dyson sphere? One planet will barely make a Dyson dimple.

Eeech. I was waiting for this one to come up, not a bad idea, theoretically impossible though of course, even Dyson has now said that so he went over to the Dyson rings idea or whatever it is called.

I think if it were to happen it would need to be a ludicriously expensive acquisition, sort of a 1 per team thing in teamed matches. I think it would have to be so expensive that the army that built it could do little other than defend it, thus forcing the other armys to attack. Sun's are also bloody hard to defend.

Glad it has come up though. The idea first struck me in Freelancer

I am currently working on the Dyson Sphere idea, and Larry Niven's Ringworld. Unfortunatley, changing star's graphics in game right now can't be done through modding, but hopefully once the full mod tools become available, this may happen. What CAN be done is a retexturing and remodeling of stars and planets. Currently, it is hard coded in the game that Star's are not colonizable, only planetary bodies. So I am working on making a planet a star, as such having the chance of finding a prexisting Dyson Sphere or Ringworld.
So right now, plans are only for discovery of these, prebuilt. They would have huge bonuses of course, taking advantage of all that solar power.

The mod is 7 DEADLY SINS, and will incorporate my SOLAR SINS mod too. I am working on both mods. SOLAR SINS is a stand alone mod, while 7 DEADLY SINS is a combo mod that will incorporate SOLAR SINS within it.
